rich_tech Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Saw that this morning, I had a near miss the other week which was shocking, as the woman who came within an actual inch of being smashed into by me, I could even see it replaying here now, she actually only looked one way at a junction - to her left while I was approaching from the right and just pulled out on a 40mph road, the car screeched and skidded in that near miss and it shook me up a fair bit.
LincolnE Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 One of the reasons I've got a dash cam I'm afraid. All it takes is her word against yours to have months (if not years) of legal battles over who is at fault. (Obviously in this case, it's clear cut. How could you not see a tank driving towards you).

Andrew_C Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 The engine in that is crushed - £8000+ write-off. Whilst he tank is painted in cam; the amber flashing light ought to have been visible. You can see it in the second picture on the turret. That said, I've spoken with police drivers and bikers who have had halfwits pull out in front of them when on "blues-n-twos"

Dos_Box Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I spent years working with armoured vehicles, and whilst this kind of thing happens occasionally you have to wonder why the driver not only didn't see the tank (as it was aprt of an entire armourd column, but hear it (they are LOUD) and feel the vibration in the road as a 62 ton vehicle travelling at 30mph makes the earth shake just a tad! I know the road that the accident occured on very well and it is a 'military' road that goes around the Sennelager training area and has tanks on it very often. The locals like to try and push in to save time as they use it as a shortcut.

Andrew_C Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Why? They are easy to see especially with flashing lights on them, and (relatively) slow moving. What you don't want near learners is "unpredictable"; chavs in blacked out Corsas, horses, bicycles...
Xeba37 Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I wish I had a tank to run over some of the drivers who pull out on me every morning ..... One particular spot on my commute most days. This is a 40mph road, other road users joining from a junction at the bottom of a hill, clear views both ways. It is not a busy road, even at rush hour (hence why I use it) so the drivers do not need to 'force' their way out of a junction. They usually pull out in front of me forcing me to slam on the breaks (and I mean seriously slam on a few times when I wasn't speeding - I usually approach where this road joins with caution after recent experiences) when there is a load of clear space behind. I will end up having an accident there at some point if I keep driving down that road 1

burnsyb0y Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Same on my Yamaha, Regardles of vehicle type i cant see a point to not owning an actioncam/dashcam... £40 quid for a decent one off of amazon and even if you never need to use it, its better than to wish you had it if something happens.

I just don't like the idea of a big clunky thing stuck to the windscreen and looking nickable - especially around here where some dodgy people roam I don't understand why they are soooo big - I mean - they can had teeny weeny cameras on the snooker pockets and stuff so why can't we have something small - and then a connection to a smartphone to replay it on the rare occaision when you need to???
