Accessing a shared calendar on Office 365 Outlook app on iPad

Morning all,

 

I think I already know the answer to this, but I have been trying to see if there is an elegant way to get an office 365 shared calendar up on an iPad/iPhone without having to go to Office online. I've found a couple of calendar apps but they all seem to be view only. In the Outlook app it doesn't appear to be able to link to a shared calendar, only your own.

 

We're new to 365 and so far I think its great, but there does seem to be a few really odd omissions from Microsoft! Especially around the iPad apps. I have a windows phone and whilst that links to 365 better, you still cant access the shared calendar.

 

I'm starting to wonder whether this is the best way to go to have a global calendar that all can access to view and a few to edit?

 

If anyone has any thoughts even if it's to confirm it cant be done that would be good.

Nope, we've been using Office365 for over 12 months and we've never managed to get multiple calendars from appearing in the app.

 

From doing a bit of digging, it doesn't seem to be possible - but i'd like someone to point out I'm wrong )

This is simple to resolve -

 

On the iPad, when navigating to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Exchange, you add your own O365 account, but then a second O365 account that hosts said shared calendar.

 

Using the built in Calendar App, you can then view the shared calendar as required.

That does indeed work and in fact as there is nothing better I have done that for the SLT. The problem is however, I want to manage the permissions for different groups, so SLT have r/w access, but all other staff have view only. By adding the Shared user that will give r/w access to all staff.

So the only way is to give the shared user account to staff that need r/w access but all other staff will have to log into 365 on the web and then add the shared calendar.

 

It seems such a basic thing that I find it hard see why MS haven't made this available in the app. Pretty much everyone who uses a mobile device will also want to view a shared calendar. Hopefully they will sort this out on an update soon.

Doesn't the OWA app allow you to do this?

You can access the calendar by publishing the calendar as an ICS link and then subscribing to it on the iPads or iOS device.

 

This is only good if it's a calendar that user needs to view rather than edit.
