I'm thinking of starting a "screenshot" exercise.

 

Anyone do this?

 

I'd like to end up with a paper folder with screenshots of everything from switch GUI's to DHCP setups to CCTV settings - basically EVERYTHING.

 

Something that could be used to restore settings in case they get altered and assist with new setups.

We mainly have a written guide to most of our settings, or in the case of the switches a spreadsheet of all the vLan configurations per port for each of the 30 switches we have.

 

Things like our iPad setup do have screenshots of the setup.

Good Idea, we have an in house Wiki, Knowledge Base if you like. All properly setup with menu's - contents etc. Search option so you can search for DHCP and then server by Server name... or if you want CCTV you can search CCTV then by company name and it'll show the settings. it's taking some time to set up and put into place.

I document pretty much everything I can ever think of. Has proven to be an invaluable time-saver at critical moments. A year or so back we 'Fluked' the whole site so now have records of device to data point to patch panel to switch port, etc, plus vlans...

We've got a good store of information using OneNote and all daily fixes etc get documented but I think as a picture paints a thousand words it might be useful to have this paper based document....
