alunmjones Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 I'm looking to get but cant find a small amplifier. it needs to have a xlr in with two speakon out with volume control. i have found CANFORD-COMPACT-POWER-AMPLIFIER but it only has one speakon out. this is to take audio from a pc and pass it in two the hall speakers we have. it will be on all the time and swapped out with a bigger system if we have shows on. this will replace the broken connection to the school tannoy system that is there now. any advice/help appriciated thank you
Crumpet Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 What about an amp Plus small mixer with XLR sockets?
Oaktech Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 (edited) I don't think such a thing exists - everything small has binding post outputs. If it was up to me, I would have the speaker terminate on a speakon plate on the wall, and then have speakon to bare ends fly leads for use with something like this: Clever Little Box: Audio Visual Technology Then, if you need a real PA, you just plug a set of speakon - speakon leads into the wall instead. Le Edit: How does the stereo of a Laptop get into an XLR? XLR's are mono, and unless someone was very clever and put a pair of resistors into the XLR to perform a mono sum you're joining l&r+ together and audio driver chips don't like that much. Chris_ Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 What are the specifications of the speakers that it will be powering, this will dictate what amplifier you will need.
alunmjones Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 that would be ok, im looking for a set it and leave it solution, the less sliders and buttons the better really
alunmjones Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 im not sure about the speakers as they are fixed to the ceiling, just looking for a cheaper solution than the £700 ive been quoted to fix the tannoy connection.
3s-gtech Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Something like http://www.amazon.co.uk/Behringer-PMP2000-Europower-Channel-Powered/dp/B00117TFL6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1429537786&sr=1-1 We have one for a hall amp, perfectly decent for the money. Lots of sliders, but just lock it away in a cabinet. 1
Joanne Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 ^^ we have something incredibly similar to this. I've had to sticker it up to the max to avoid confusion. Don't get too many issues though.
Crumpet Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 I get what you mean now. Would somethink like a speakon to XLR cable do? SWAMP Speaker Link Cable - Speakon(f) to XLR(f) - 1m | SWAMP
Crumpet Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Something like Behringer PMP2000 Europower 800W 10 Channel Powered Mixer: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics We have one for a hall amp, perfectly decent for the money. Lots of sliders, but just lock it away in a cabinet. All those buttons and dials are making me drool!
tekins Posted April 20, 2015 Posted April 20, 2015 Something like Behringer PMP2000 Europower 800W 10 Channel Powered Mixer: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics We have one for a hall amp, perfectly decent for the money. Lots of sliders, but just lock it away in a cabinet. That's pretty much what we have in one of our halls, works really well, only one knob needed - Main Level, even our staff can handle that (well, with a big poster showing it).
alunmjones Posted April 20, 2015 Author Posted April 20, 2015 thank you for the link @3s-gtech , need to go and ask the headmistress what she wants to do.
