neb1355 Posted April 9, 2015 Posted April 9, 2015 I don't normally post but seeing 'Addresses an issue that could cause Macs bound to an Active Directory server to become unresponsive at startup' listed above just about made my day!! Been building new Yosemite images for a suite of Macs and this problem has been the bane of my life trying to fix!

Hidden backdoor API to root privileges in Apple OS X The Admin framework in Apple OS X contains a hidden backdoor API to root privileges. It’s been there for several years (at least since 2011), I found it in October 2014 and it can be exploited to escalate privileges to root from any user account in the system. The intention was probably to serve the “System Preferences” app and systemsetup (command-line tool), but any user process can use the same functionality. Apple has now released OS X 10.10.3 where the issue is resolved. OS X 10.9.x and older remain vulnerable, since Apple decided not to patch these versions. We recommend that all users upgrade to 10.10.3.

3s-gtech Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Cheers. Just finishing a new Yosemite image on a SSD upgraded suite of iMacs - this should be welcome. Saves updating them one by one now too. Might just wait for the dust to settle first.

You would have thought so now that Apple has killed Discoveryd and gone back to using mDNSresponder. Apple Releases OS X 10.10.4 With 'Discoveryd' Process Removal Apple today released OS X Yosemite 10.10.4, an under-the-hood update that introduces several bug fixes and performance improvements. Most notably, 10.10.4 includes the removal of the problematic Discoveryd process, which has caused multiple networking issues for some users in OS X Yosemite. The biggest change in OS X 10.10.4 is the elimination of the discoveryd process that's been accused of being responsible for some significant networking and WiFi bugs within Yosemite. Discoveryd is a networking process that was introduced in Yosemite to replace mDNSresponder, but it caused problems like slow wake from sleep, failures to resolve DNS names, duplicate machine names, WiFi disconnects, excessive CPU usage, battery drain, and more. In 10.10.4, discoveryd has been replaced with the older mDNSresponder process. 1
