Alternative sources for repairs/spare parts for SMART projectors

We have a need to replace the mirror for a SMART UF75W projector, the normal providers Steljes has referred us to TSC who have insisted that the replacement of the mirror requires the replacement of the entire 'engine' at a cost of nearly 700GBP excluding VAT. Given the cost of a completely new projector is around 900GBP you can understand why we are looking for alternative suppliers of spare parts or repair services for repairing just the faulty part.

 

All suggestions welcome

Also interested if anyone has an identical model with a functional mirror, but with some other fault that might be worthy of cannibalisation?

About 6 years ago I worked for a company called Equinox and they were contracted by Steljes to do warranty repairs on Smartboards/projectors. They had a dedicated workshop & engineers specifically for Smart products. Not sure if they still do Smart but it might be worth a phone call:

What's the fault you're trying to fix? I ask as somebody with a UF75 with b&w speckles on the image - and it's out of warranty.

The mirror has a coating which is only a few microns thick, it had a small scratch and fingerprints, a member of the team tried to clean it with a fine cloth and succeeded in removing part of the mirrored surface.

If this one gets scrapped (probably not that likely), you've got first dibs on the bits.

sounds like you have a DMD failure. (if it looks like iron filings) wont get any better, only worse, but you could get the DLP DMD chip replaced.

We've had a couple of machines fail with power supplies going pop ... are there others out there that have had others fail for other reasons that might have parts available for cannibalisation?

Alternatively, has anyone else had to source alternative projectors which are feature and mount compatible with the UF75W (as it appears to be no longer available)?

Just found this thread - did you manage to swap the mirror assembly earlier this year? UF75's are fairly time consuming to repair so I suspect a large part of the cost you were quoted by TSC was the labour cost.

 

SMART's newer UF70w will fit on the same wall fixings as the UF75w but I don't think you'll be able to buy them without getting another board too! A good alternative which will normally fit in almost the same place on the wall (you'd need to take a couple of measurements to check clearances) is Epson's EB-575W, but a de-install and re-install is needed as the fixing points aren't the same.

We wrote off the attempt at a mirror replacement as not-economically viable.

I don't blame you for writing off the mirror replacement! If my memory's correct the projector's as good as built around the internal metal bracket that the mirror's glued to.

I don't suppose anyone has any spare or fault UF75? I have a fan failure on mine and the warranty is out, :'(

Just had ordered one from Ebay. I'll let you know if I still need one.

But i have a feeling that all of my boards are a year out of warranty so more are likely to fail.
