That is before you double the RAM to 16GB. 0.2" thickness and 1.4lb difference isn't that much more.

For instance Lenovo's Yoga 3 Pro has a better resolution, touch screen, foldable-ness, etc. and it has been available for months at $1200. Asus has convertible devices slated to come out soon too at the $800-$900 with the More M and 8GB. I think that, unless you have withered muscles and require a Mac, the MacBook isn't the cleverest choice right now.

I like how the old Air is thicker than the original Air but hang on the new Macbook is thinner that that but thicker than the original, which was the thinnest notebook ever except those other ones. Can't see the benefit of that key mechanism. Hating Apple a little bit more each day. No doubt this, and the Watch will sell bucketloads to the starbucks crowd.

From the Apple website: Butterfly mechanism Traditional keyboards use a scissor mechanism, which tends to wobble around the edges. This creates a lack of precision when you strike anywhere except the center of the key. We needed to reduce key wobbling for a keyboard this thin; otherwise, striking a key off-center could result in the keycap hitting bottom before a keystroke registers. So we designed an entirely new butterfly mechanism, which is wider than the scissor mechanism and has a single assembly made from a stiffer material — allowing for a more stable, responsive key that takes up less vertical space. This innovative design improves stability, uniformity, and control — no matter where you press on the key. Might be complete house manure but that's their public reasoning
Ric_ Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 There's nothing wrong with the Core M. It depends what you want to use the machine for - the Core M is a lot lighter on your battery than an i5 and is equivalent to a bottom end 4th gen i5 (just - if you get the wind behind it). If I had to have a Mac though, I'd get the one with the the 5th gen i5 and put up with the extra weight (which is all batteries by the looks of those stats for battery life).

Norphy Posted March 9, 2015 Posted March 9, 2015 As I've already said, I don't particularly like it only having one port to do everything but to say that it isn't a fully functional laptop out of the box is being pretty hyperbolic. When you look at the typical usage of a laptop, it's generally just used on its own without any additional peripherals. Most people won't plug them into an external monitor or into a wired network connection. The only really annoying thing is that you'd need a passive adapter to plug a USB stick into the thing, at least until type c sticks come along. It's clearly unsuitable for anyone who wants to use it professionally but for their main market it's probably no worse than the rest of the range. I realise that's damning it with faint praise as far as your concerned but not everyone has the same requirements or preferences as you or me when it comes to hardware. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that either, if someone likes the look of this then good for them.

SanDisk has announced a flash drive that works with both standard and Type-C ports. I suppose in the interim most new USB 3.1 flash drives will have both ports?
