abillybob Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Hey Guys, A teacher is having a problem with her Smartboard, I have checked it and all seems to be plugged in correctly and it shows up on Device Manager, I have the full version of Smart NoteBook 11 installed although the board itself won't show a green light, the pen lights flash when being plugged in but it just won't work or function without the power LED going from red to green!?!?! anyone had a similar issue, really don't know where to go from here. The same teacher in question also can't seem to save Smart Notebook files and it just pops up an error message saying "unable to save" which has never happened before. She has 2GB left of HDD space (because her home drive is massive) but 2GB should be enough surely so can't see it being because of this, or could it? Thankyou
sted Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 has the pc been rebooted recently as ive seen this if people use switch user and they weren't the lucky user to get the smart board working
abillybob Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Yes I restarted it while there and plugged it back in. Still nothing really strange??
witch Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Is there a power lead for the SMART - if so, swap it out for another one - I have seen this before and it turned out to be something wrong with the power lead
abillybob Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Just tried that Make's no difference.
abillybob Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Not that long and it works perfectly fine with another laptop!? I've tried another USB cable too 0.5 Meters but still no difference!
witch Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Have you reset the board? - Disconnect the power for a min or use the reset button
abillybob Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 I'll give that a go in a mo and keep you updated she's just taking a lesson!! Any other suggestions to try that you can think of?
JRowley Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 If it works with a laptop and not with the PC you should probably just take the drivers and software off and put it back again. Also clear up some disc space to resolve that unable to save issue, SMART probably has some check in place that if the free disc space goes below a certain % then it stops saving.
witch Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Didn't realise it was related to one laptop - I'd make a rubbish tech support person Should have asked the question. If it works with other PCs then it must be related to her laptop. First check it with a different smart board to see it the problem follows the laptop. Then remove and reinstall all smart software - we are on 11.2 here. I always uninstall smart ink.
sted Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 is it worth plugging it in via a usb hub maybe the problem computer isn't delivering signals cleanly and a powered hub may "fix" it
abillybob Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 Thankyou for all your suggestions. But nothing works!!! Can't get my head round this thing. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the driver and all thats listed above though the flaming laptop will not work at all with the board!!!!
JRowley Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 Have you taken off the USB drivers too? That would be my next step before I just flattened the machine, and if that didn't work I would make sure gravity still had the expected effect on it by throwing it out the window.

Yeah, made sure they where uninstalled via Device Manager as well. The laptop does have the correct expected outcome when chucking it out the window, so no reason why the smart board shouldn't work, I then incinerated it in a fire just to make doubly sure that all was ok and it's all worked fine *sigh*

witch Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 There's a smart uninstaller - presumably because there are issues with it - did you use that?
abillybob Posted February 25, 2015 Author Posted February 25, 2015 There's a smart uninstaller - presumably because there are issues with it - did you use that? Oh never knew about this. I'll Google it and give it a try Thanks!

rad Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 So to clarify... The board works with another laptop The software has been uninstalled. Drivers reinstalled Does this laptop work in another room? Have you uninstalled the usb devices in Device Manager and then let PC find it again? (I take it this laptop is Win 7)

I have tried it in another room and it works fine. Can't make sense of it.
rad Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 @abillybob here is what I would do.... Ring Caretaker/premises team Lift board from Room A and swap with board from Room B Refit board B in Room A Put feet up.
cuester Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 Have you tried updating the smartboards firmware. I find old versions cause random issues occasionally.
Fraserb82 Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 I am having a different issue from what is mentioned in here, but read it just in case. Love some of the comments haha. Just out of curiosity, did you ever find a fix for this?
TechMofo Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 We had this with a couple of SMART Board 880's, after numerous hours trying to figure out what it was, it turned out a component within the actual pen tray had failed. If you've got another of these boards [working] on site, it might be worth taking the pen tray off of it, and swapping it to see if it connects - if it does, you have your answer.
