Expecting to be a little tired in the office tomorrow if this game is anywhere near as good as the reviews made it out to be... Let's hope us PC players don't get the same Rockstar server troubles that consoles had for multiplayer on the opening days, eh?
DMcCoy Posted April 14, 2015 Posted April 14, 2015 Soooooo 12am arrived, I'd preloaded on steam, 60GB on a 4Mb connection. 30GB free on my 1.5TB Steam drive after preload. It tried to allocate another 60GB for the extraction and failed (thanks for no warning steam!). Fortunately I had a robocopy to a backup disk before it tried to decrypt (because I thought it *might* need 120GB). Copied back, moved a couple of games and tried again, it finally extracted everything about an hour later, as the end of a HDD for reading and writing the files is a bit slow And then.... Social club crashes. FYI it can't cope with redirected or changed path for My Documents. Run as another local account and it worked. Not actually played as it was about 2am by that point

I just enabled the admin account, use runas with another shortcut for steam when I need to close and rerun for difficult games. You can even save the user credentials with runas with /savecred. So far the only ones that fail with folder redirection for me are Fable, Fable Anniversary, Fable 3 and now GTA V. No unusual characters, but still the same failing of sanitising the My Docs path. - - - Updated - - - Just worked out it needs double the space than advertised. I've had to drop the graphics settings on my rig but everything seems so much clearer and mouse/keyboard aiming completely changes how I play the game. Getting some texture problems though. Last night involved lots of player hunting, pressing the wrong button to change view whilst in a cargo plane to fall to my death from a great height and a supercar jumping a raccoon flipping the bird.
localzuk Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 Had a bit of trouble starting it up but got there in the end. It decided that my machine should use 800x600 resolution at low level everything. A few tweaks later and it now looks almost exactly the same quality as GTA IV on my machine. Think I may splash out and get a new graphics card next month - my current one is now 4 years old. Liking the game so far. A few good things - cars handle *much* nicer in it than in IV. Police cars seem to follow the laws of physics and they don't all instantly try and block the car travelling towards them at 150mph. The "what the police can see" arc in front of their dot on the GPS is pretty useful too. I did find out that the iFruit app for smartphones doesn't work with the PC version yet. After having more than a year for porting, its a shame they still managed to miss something out.
chazzy2501 Posted April 15, 2015 Posted April 15, 2015 I'm wanting this game but stipulates the need for a quad core, I have the Pentium 20th Anniversary Edition OCed to 4.4Ghz but it's on a non-hyperthreaded Haswell dual core. Also a HD7950 which is nice. Will the game just refuse to run if it has only 2 cores or complain like Rage did but run great anyway?

Mostly because I had a friend who ported from console with his multiplayer progress (Level 124). Tanks, Buzzards... Death everywhere. As a first time player after waiting TOO long... I'm so happy it's finally here. I can see alot of time going missing due to this game.

Well worth the wait (and the £1.5k spent on a gaming laptop) it looks utterly gorgeous and runs like a dream on the GTX980M (8GB). It's the first time I've played a GTA game where I haven't had to fiddle about with the graphics settings, it just works on max. It's quite handy having half a million in pocket to begin the game with thanks Steam. Game on!

Did a few heists with my friends: SO. DAMN. COOL. I will spend many an hour on GTA V.
