Hi folks,

I'm curious as to whether schools are using tablets or not, and how much they're used.

There are five questions, and you can select more than one. Essentially are some staff, all staff, or no staff using them, and the same for students. Have you gone as far as BYOD?

Thanks for answering.

Note, this is a poll, and I'm not sure if it shows up on the mobile version of the forum.

We have 16 available to each department (mid roll out currently) which are kept in school and are not specific to a pupil. There is no option in the poll for shared use.

About to replace netbooks and buy 40 more. Staff voted for keyboards. Probably buying hybrids

When we (it dept) suggested we ask staff what they wanted we were told no (by smt) but they can choose between an ipad, nothing or a surface pro. "Nothing" was then taken off the table and then the staff were told they'd need a good reason not to pick an ipad. The surface pro was then changed to a lenovo miix 2 which is nothing like as good. Still ended up with a 60/40 split in favour of the windows tablet.

We don't give students tablets, but they are available in some faculties to use. Staff don't get them, other than a couple of exceptions where they have a Windows tablet instead of a laptop.

we are in the process currently at rolling out a One Device Per Pupil (Kind of BYOD, but iPads purchased through school, but are the responsibility of the children, and parents can insure them through a school purchased policy) meaning that currently all teachers who teach the years completed will get an ipad. We are set to roll that out to the whole school and bring in a potential leasing agreement for 6th form devices)

We've just got 64 Dell Venue 11 Pro's with detachable keyboards and our user's love them... so much quicker than our ageing laptops. Not had any issue's other than the initial roll out of Windows 8.1 but that was more of a technical problem than a hardware or user issue.

We have iPads for staff who signed up to deliver paper light courses. This is monitored, and if too much paper is printed, then the iPad is taken away. AFAIK, this hasn't happened. All SMT have iPads, except one who specifically wanted Android. We have a trolley of iPads which are used by MFL. They used to have PCs but these were exchanged for iPads. We have 6 Android tablets which are available for loan by students in the library, and we've bought a few more which are going to be used for a specific course. There is a rumour that in the next 5 years, we'll ditch the student computer suites and go BYOD. The students who won't, will be supplied an Android tablet, which will be paid for from their fee.
