jinnantonnixx Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) I have a Siemens dishwasher which has gone faulty. It's been fine since 2002, but now the water doesn't heat up. This is most probably the instant heater (£75-£120), a controller, or the main board. Let's assume it's the heater for now until I pull it apart and look at it. I'm not timid about having a go at fixing stuff, and my Dad's a good electrician. Now, I have a choice - fix it with quite an expensive part, and hope nothing else goes wrong, or get another new dishwasher. I saw the Currys 'Essentials' dishwasher is £179. Reviews on Reevoo are generally positive. I looked on espares and most major parts are available for this model, and the parts are cheaper than the Siemens/Bosch. Suspiciously, many of the parts look the same, but that's by the way. The floor is open for discussion. Edited January 28, 2015 by jinnantonnixx

featured_spectre Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I'd go for a new one. They're likely to be a bit more energy efficient too since the standards came in, and with it being not much more than the part you need, why buy the part when you can get a whole new one? 1

We have one of those that I bought in a hurry when our Beko died (not heating water, same as yours), and it's not great to be honest. The basket design is poor so you can't put cups and glasses in it without them falling over. The runners stick so the tray comes out jerkily and it doesn't dry very well. It's cheap, but cheap for a reason IMHO. 1

Funny you should mention that, Dad's popping over tomorrow night with a hammer and soldering iron. cpjitservices Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I've got a 6 year old Indesit Dishwasher, its got more parts on it from ebay than you could care to imagine lol, I think I've re-conned it. Same with my Indesit tumble-dryer although I wouldn't have another one of those as this is the second time the element / heater module has gone and I've replaced it this time only lasting a few weeks and trips the elctrics. Tumble-dryer is heading for a skip. Id give it a go fixing it and see how it goes if you can get the bits cheap. 1

Normally I'd do this without a second thought if the part was cheap, but the part is around £100ish, hence the dilemma. I'll go ahead tomorrow and see if it really is the heater. You never know, it could something simple. If it doesn't look promising, I'll plump for a new one.

salc Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Our local odd-job man who is a bit of a wizard at fixing all white goods advised us that he never gets called out to fix Bosch dishwashers but regularly has to fix Beko. We took his advice and bought a Bosch and have not been disappointed - it is 3 years old now.
Andrew_C Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Difficult call, but I think I'd change it. I'd avoid the Curry's machine, and any of that ilk. A Bosch or Siemens is going to be FAR superior by almost any measure. Except initial outlay.
