Smoothwall Support - Your comments?
salc replied to danbee's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I just googled response times from Smoothwall support and stumbled upon this thread which, although it is 5 years old, resonates with us now. We installed Smoothwall over the summer and, perhaps unsurprisingly, are experiencing a number of teething problems as we try to get to grips with this product. What is a surprise is the length of time it takes to get a response from Smoothwall (or Roughwall as a member of our SLT has dubbed it) support. Up to a day would seem reasonable but anything longer when childrens' online safety is potentially at stake is too long IMO. I will echo previous posts and say that when we eventually get to speak to someone from support they are excellent and usually resolve issues very quickly. -
Has anyone used Projector Lamp Experts UK? Their prices seem almost too good to be true but they look genuine. Any feed back would be good. Thanks

Does this mean I can enable gmail in GAFE without affecting our current email setup as long as we don't change the DNS entries?

Over 600 schools in the south and west have opted to have SIMS hosted by ScoMIS (ourselves included). We have had very few problems in nearly 9 years since we took the plunge. If your internet connection is reasonably reliable I would recommend it.

Undercharge and they won't trust you, overcharge and you won't get the job. £20/hour is still on the low side for a professional service.

Stopping students installing password revealing softwares

We recently had a similar incident. The student's Head of House took it very seriously. The student lost his network access for a few days until he and his mother had a meeting with the HoH and re-signed the AUP. The student still has certain sanctions and is watched fairly carefully. -
Couldn't agree more, they are my favourites too.

Our local odd-job man who is a bit of a wizard at fixing all white goods advised us that he never gets called out to fix Bosch dishwashers but regularly has to fix Beko. We took his advice and bought a Bosch and have not been disappointed - it is 3 years old now.

How about the Asus X102BA. I have been quite impressed with Asus devices recently.

I am also interested to know if anyone has got this working. I have been asked to install Source Filmmaker which needs Steam and which will hopefully work with Steam for Schools. There are an awful lot of ifs and maybes in this lot.

Except that you are never done, you are always a parent and you always want to be able to help them if you can. I have to agree with the above comments about feeling the pinch.

To some extent you have already answered my question but I wonder if anyone has any more to add?

Thanks Stuart, it was a really useful day and your notes above are comprehensive. -
Hi Nick The results are too long to post here. Do you want to PM me with an email address?

Hi Nick I get a 404. I have made some progress. I realised I was not logging on to the secure site. Now I get all the ticks but when I enter the administrator password nothing happens, i.e. I do not get authorised to use AD.

My problem is that I am getting: IIS7 Integrated Pipeline: Green tick Services Activated: Red cross App_Data Write Accss:Green tick and when I try to enter the administrator password I get the error "Not Found". I have gone through the setup procedure again and all the settngs look correct. The only difference is that instead of having the HAP files in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\HAP, we have put them in D:\inetpub\wwwroot\HAP. Obviously this is preventing me from making any configuration changes so I would appreciate some help with this.

Thanks John, a really useful little utility.
