Hi All,

We currently use Pcounter as out print solution but i am having trouble adding another printer, I have added it to the server and created a new Pcounter port to be used and the printer was working all of last week, however with out anything changing it no longer works. the job gets sent to the printer and can be seen in the printer queue using PControl but it doesn't print instead the status of the print job changes from Printing to "Printing: Waiting for the printer to Print...(30)" it then counts down from 30 to 0 and vanishes from the Queue but does not print.

i have removed the printer from the pc and then re added it but it continues to the same......

has anybody else had a similar issue or have any ideas about why it may be doing this?

Regards

James

Do you have print credits?

is there any rules on the printer (e.g. delete colour prints)

are ther any generic rules for the whole site ( e..g delete colour prints)

try printing something in greyscale in the printer properties

I have checked the Pcounter port settings and it all looks correct, i have used the 2 test buttons and pcounter can communicate with the printer.

I have just logged in to the server and printed a notepad document to the printer and this worked, when i printed to the share of the printer it stopped working and displayed the waiting to print status. I have checked the security on the share and it has the correct groups in there including authenticated users.

would this be a setting in pcounter that would be causing the error?

Just to add to the confusion, i can print a test page from any of the network printers and that gets processed and printed fine, but a word document will fail straight after.

thank you for the support

Are you printing directly out on your other printers setup in the same way or are jobs been held?

Suggest you look at the way a working on it setup and check your new one like for like, potentially it maybe waiting for the popup to allow the job to be accepted.

Hi All,

Thank you for your continued suggestions,

If i change the printer port tot a standard tcpIP port it works perfectly when shared from the print server but when i change it back to a pcounter port it stops working. I have compared the setup of the printer to one that is exactly the same and is working. With this printer it is in an office so it prints straightaway, we have other printers that hold the jobs in a virtual queue to be released on bigger MFDs

cheers

Random. Without seeing how things are setup not sure what to advise. You will more than likely have a service agreement for PCounter with AIT/Altman, if you give them a call on 0113 273 0300 they will be able to help, only if in maintenance though.

If you can screenshot me the settings I will take a look, will have access to my PCounter test bed tomorrow so can check things out.

Hi Matthew,

I think i may have got it working, i changed the protocol to LPR instead of TCP IP and it printed a document straight away, not sure why it doesn't like the normal TCP IP method but i a, going to test it like this and see if it continues to work as it did yesterday.

many thanks for your replies, i will let you know how i get on

Had a similar problem to this. In the end, we got the printer company and the PCounter to both have a look at the issue and it was something to do with the port setting on one of the printers.
