abillybob Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 It will take the lease to renew I believe. If you manually force a few devices to renew, you should start seeing the corresponding dns records. Ah yes much better thank you for all your help I'm still having problems with some clients connecting to our Wifi though... It's getting annoying now I really don't know what is wrong. Silly laptops
IrritableTech Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Ah yes much better thank you for all your help I'm still having problems with some clients connecting to our Wifi though... It's getting annoying now I really don't know what is wrong. Silly laptops Now DNS seems to be working a bit better, start again with the wireless devices - are they getting valid dhcp leases, can they ping servers and other clients (via DNS name and IP). What are ping times like? I'd want to be sure my wired network was working efficiently - look at getting access to the switches. Because most of your clients seem to be wireless it's easy to assume it's a wireless issue - but it isn't forced to be.

Ok so now in DHCP the little computer icon has a clock next to it rather than the green pen... which looks a lot better. The client is still receiving all the right settings in regard to what IP addresses the DNS ,DHCP and router servers are although it still won't ping to any servers by either IP or DNS names. I'll use Spiceworks inventory to find the IP's to our switches and try to access the web Gui from their IP. What am I looking for once I've accessed the switch?
TronXP Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I assume you have allowed ping through any firewalls on your devices?
abillybob Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Ok I'm on the switches GUI.... Now what Haha sorry really a noob at this. I assume you have allowed ping through any firewalls on your devices? Yes, it's allowed throughout the school.
IrritableTech Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Anything to suggest particular ports are very busy, perhaps there is an alert section - any errors springing up (remember dates and times are probably completely wrong). Not knowing which netgear switches you've got it is hard to say - are they all netgear? I haven't really used netgear switches for a while I'm afraid.
abillybob Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 I have 4 x GS724TP Netgear switches which are all POE and are only connected to our Wifi AP's. The other switches are HP ProCurves. The time as you stated is completely off. Should I leave it like this or is that ok to point them to my time server in school? They don't seem to have any way to error report or find any problems on the GUI. So I guess it stops here then
DMcCoy Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Have you looked at the wireless controller yet? For useful things like authentication failures etc.
abillybob Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 Have you looked at the wireless controller yet? For useful things like authentication failures etc. I wouldn't even know where to begin to look, I've gone through all the tabs and sub-tabs but I can't find anything relating to this... where'd you reckon I could find them? Here's a screenshot of the dashboard.
Joanne Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 are there any places where it seems to happen more than others? Or is it everywhere? You tried rebooting the wireless controller?
abillybob Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 It's everywhere and I'm too scared too! Why do you think I should??
Joanne Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Yeah do it now at the end of school... UNLESS you are having the same problems on cabled machines?
Joanne Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 uh oh... hope I didn't help break it further!!!
abillybob Posted January 27, 2015 Author Posted January 27, 2015 uh oh... hope I didn't help break it further!!! OH MY GAWD!!!! Cows are falling from the sky and teachers heads are falling off now WHY JOANNE WHY!!!!! No it's all fine but didn't seem to fix the problem may have to get the company in and they can have a look and sort it. Unless of course anyone has any other suggestions
TronXP Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 You could try and reboot all of your switches, see if that does anything.
Brimstone Posted February 6, 2015 Posted February 6, 2015 OH MY GAWD!!!! Cows are falling from the sky and teachers heads are falling off now WHY JOANNE WHY!!!!! abillybob Posted March 19, 2015 Author Posted March 19, 2015 Still having these problems Can anyone help me out here. Looked at my Aruba Dashboard and found "Potential Issues" tab and it seems that a lot of devices have "Potential Issues" could this be what is causing the problem?
10101010 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 hi Abillybob What firmware version of your Aruba controller are you running? have you checked on Home - Airheads Community for any similar problems? To be honest, running such a critical service without support is incredibly high risk from a software and hardware perspective. Personally it's something I would do my utmost to convince my line manager or SLT to address. Unfortunately for you, Aruba's licensing strategy is expensive (unless it's recently changed). If you would like an alternative Aruba support Company to quote you, let me know and I can PM you over there details. I used to use them before switching to Ruckus.
chazzy2501 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 without knowing anything about your system, I'd disable WMM, if you can and limit yourself to 20Mhz channels (No Channel bonding 2.4 or 5) you may also want to check if the system has a minimum RSSID connection strength for the clients. Also disallow legacy wifi devices (802.11b) with the switches make sure that STP is enabled (fast start for wired PCs (not Apple Macs) no fast start for everything else) Do you have a WiSpy to look for interference (Microwaves, Cordless phones, birdbox cams) our new low energy lights upset a few older APs! (now Unifi and all good) 1

Have some screenshots of what's going on the client end if that helps any of you understand whats going on Just to let you know all values in CMD are as they should be
jbunoomally Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Have you tried disabling ipv6 and then ping and tracert Google
