Having had my card cloned last week, and only getting a replacement today, my steam store order was promptly rejected by the bank. And then they ring me to ask if it was OK. And from then on, I cant get steam to load due to the high load steam is having. #GoddamitHSBC

I hate to ask (silly console gamer doesn't understand the facts of Steam), why not complete those games before buying anymore? Surely the games would be cheaper second hand in 5 years time, if you still want to play them after burning through your current back catalogue?

There is no second hand market in PC gaming, just cheaper prices first hand. And they drop to silly prices during the Steam sales, so a savvy user will stock up on games during the sale when they go for 50-75% off and complete them in the gap until the next one.

But 600+? Surely it's cheaper buying 1 game full price that you are actually going to play than 108 games on sale that you're never going to play? I understand having a games back catalogue, I've got one I'm currently working my way through, but buying loads of games on the off chance you may one day want to play it just because it's in a fire sale seem crazy to me.

Normal pricing for a game can be £20, but during the sale it can drop to £3.99. So, its well worth it if you do intend to play that game - even if that intention is far in the future. The main issue comes when you go "ooh, that's cheap" for games you don't actually intend on playing.

 

There's no second hand market for PC games, especially not Steam ones (you can't transfer them between users), so the only option for cheap PC games is sales.

 

I've effectively ran out of games I want to buy on Steam at the moment, so its not a problem. I'm working through some of the games I bought 2 years ago now. Also, bear in mind that a lot of the games on sale are in bundles, so for every game you want, you might end up with half a dozen you don't. I have some shooting sim, for example, which I will never play. I also have a bunch of games that were bundled with newer releases that I won't play - the game play across them is same/similar, so playing the newest release is enough.

Maybe it's the way my brain works, but I find the Steam Store a PITA to navigate. I can't find a way to "show all under £x", plus my Wishlist is hard to find and I can't add packs to it, amongst others.

Can't see why people would need to search by cost; surely you'd want a game then buy that?

 

Personally used it to finish off my Saints Row collection yesterday, getting the whole SR3 pack with all DLC for under £9.

When there's sites like humble bundle and bundle stars offering 10+ games for a fiver, you don't question whether or not you'll play them, you just hit buy lol

 

A lot of mine I'll never play, I accepted that long ago, but they're mostly games from bundles that came with something else I wanted.
