Internet Explorer 11 - GPP Proxy not applying!

Hello everyone,

 

Hoping someone on here can help me out as I am beginning to lose the will with Internet Explorer (Exploder ) 11 and setting proxy.

 

We use mandatory profiles for all students

 

I have created a GPP for Internet Explorer 10 (which also applies to 11) (the same way as I have done with setting up IE9 - which works great!) and it refuses to apply the settings for the user. However, if I remove the mandatory profile from a user and log in with that, the settings do not apply, but by logging off and on again they do. This is the not the solution and even less so for a mandatory profile considering they are deleted from the local machine when a user logs off.

 

I have tried to add the appropriate Proxy settings registry values to GPP Registry for the and this does not work also.

 

I have even tried exporting these settings into a .REG file and then using reg import as part of the student login batch file and this too does not work.

 

The mandatory profile that we use was created on a machine with IE9 - could this be the cause of the issue? When a student logs in they get the "Setting up personalized settings" dialog, which doesn't appear on staff accounts (IE11 Proxy settings work for staff). I am wondering if this Active Setup(?) is wiping out these settings as this happens after the Group Policy Processing has completed??

 

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am going out of my mind!

 

(Its funny how Google Chrome is so much easier to manage and just works and yet IE11 is an absolute PITA!!)

I would take a look at your mandatory profile ntuser.dat in regedit. It sounds like you have conflicting IE settings in the registry already - you can safely delete them from here if so. Have a search through with F3.

Have you installed IE11 on the actual server. I read somewhere that this is s necessary step. I haven't yet but IE 11 has rolled out to most of the clients. Oddly our student users pick up the proxy but frequently staff need to input the proxy manually on first log on.

Yep, we have almost completely migrated to Server 2012 R2. All three of our DCs are running Server 2012 R2.

 

Having looked at this issue even more I've found the solution: we created the IE11 installer using IEAK. I have just recreated the installer, but only checked "Internal Install" check box and leave all the others unchecked. Once the new installer had been created, I uninstalled the Internet Explorer 11 update to put it back to IE9 and then installed it again using this installer.

 

Once done, logged on with our test student account and IE11 proxy settings were successfully applied by just using the Internet Settings Group Policy Preferences.

No that's the thing, we used IEAK and left all the tick boxes selected and then when we got to the Proxy settings we selected the "Do Not Import settings" option, thinking that it would allow proxy settings to be applied using GPP. This clearly wasn't the case.

We had a similar problem with IE11 and the we found that deplying by using the executable with a silent (/passive /norestart) switch then allowed proxy settings to be set either using GPP or the registry.
