Working Hours

I use public transport to make my way to work. sometimes im 10 minutes late but my boss is ok with it. I dont really take a break during the day, so that makes up for it.

I work what my contract says I work - sometimes I'm in a bit early or stay a bit late, other days I leave early or take longer lunches, but it all averages out.

 

The evenings are my time for my own interests. Research and self-study I do on school hours (although as a geek I do some reading at home, but that's for my personal interest in technology not to directly benefit the school). I'm not a jobsworth, but I'm not a mug either and I have a life outside of these walls.

 

If your workload cannot be managed within your contracted hours, then the school needs to respond to this, not you. The solution is not for you to put in extra hours for free, but for the school to employ more staff, reduce your areas of responsibility or adjust the timescales which they expect of you.

mon, tues, wed and fri 8:30 - 4:30

thurs 8 - 4

 

but usually each day is 8:00 - 5:30

We run a two week curriculum timetable. On week 2 the school finishes at 1:20pm on the Friday and all the kids nearly get run over by the teachers screaming out of the staff carpark....

 

......they get to finish this early because of their work/life balance being taken into account......

 

.......unfortunately they seem to have overlooked the support staff in this respect and we still have to work until 4:30pm.........

A few months ago I was starting at 7 and finishing at about 4:30 due to the amount of work I had to do. Now my resignation is in I'm keeping to my hours and break/lunch times. Sod it, told them we need someone in to give me a hand!

and i was going to compare views and standard of living as i'm based in the Peak District.

I work 8:15 to 4:15, don't usually have a break except for half an hour at lunch time, which is usually in front of the puter looking at edugeek.

 

A little while ago I did a time and motion study of what work needs to be done here. It came out at 54 hours of work per week and I am contrated for 37 with no overtime allowed.

 

Since then my workload has increased further as we have federated with two other schools.

 

So.... when someone asks why something has not been done yet I point themn to my workload and my daily work book which lists EVERYTHING I do. Then I ask them where they could have fitted it in that week. Usually they can't answer as they realise the amount of work I have to do.
