I think a complete deletion of the database would improve performance

 

Anyway just spoke to Support and the 2014 Migration Tool is available now as well for those of us who are skipping from 2008 straight to 2014 but it does not appear to be in Support Net yet, so best to call Capita Support and get them to send you the link through.

so they are migrating to 2014 as well, i think i mentioned in an earlier comment that we are being migrated to 2012 in jan (i was told it was 2012 all this talk of 2014 is making me twitch lol)

shouldnt they be sticking to 1 version to make things easier for themselves and their clients

The recent SIMS release includes support for SQL 2014 (now that is has been out for several months) so it makes sense to move directly from SQL 2008R2 to SQL 2014 than move to SQL 2012. Especially since our SQL license is for the most current version out.

 

Capita always had support for at least 2 version of SQL at one time, it's just previously there has been 3 years or more between Microsoft releases, whereas now they roll them out every other year.

If you look at Azure and the other cloud things, they get updated every month.

Its worth noting that when doing the Migration, if you are planning to rebuild the server and reinstall everything, then separate the SQL Logs and Data Folder onto a RAID 10 Array.

Does capita still support you if you split the logs and data folder? A few years back they didn't like it.

I think @mukz was referring to installing SQL onto a different drive to OS. Either way, @10101010 Capita do support if you have the SQL database log (ldf) files on a different drive to SQL database data (mdf) files - supports been in for ages now. Though I'd argue the benefit if you have your database in SIMPLE recovery model - as the log file isn't really used. Kinda goes back to what @PhilNeal was saying - http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/146649-installing-sims.html...

Yup, they do, we have the data and logs folder on one drive. have had no issues with capita support.
