Light preventing the projector remote from working

Because the projector is located near a ceiling light the remote control will not work unless you turn the light off. This is inconvenient when using functions like blank screen.

 

Does anyone know a workaround for this (e.g. some type of tape)?

I've found that creating a simple shade above the IR eye out of a piece of card is sometimes enough to get you going again. The other thing, not the cheapest, but it'll work, is to get a Keen IR extender to bring the IR eye somewhere nearer the remote.

Yes! Was trying to avoid producing something to shade the light but it looks like the only option.

Change the led in the remote for a high power version or solder a 2nd one alongside the first to boost it, or put a shade on the receiver

Out of interest if you unplug the USB from the board, will the remote function correctly?

We have new Smartboards and Casio projectors. If the Smartboard is switched on, then there's a clash. If it's off, then the remote works properly.

 

So our workaround is to switch the smartboard off at the button on the board. Might that work?

It is an old promethean board powered by serial + power adaptor. I removed the power adaptor to unplug the board but result was the same i.e. remote not working. Thanks for the suggestions, all worth trying!

If you look in the manual to the projector, you can change the frequency of the remote control. its only a case of holding down a couple of the buttons on the remote.

We had this issue on a Hitachi projector in a hall right under a sky light,

 

We attached a mirror above the IR receiver on the projector and worked really well after that.

Problem solved!

 

Thanks for all the suggestions. I looked at the frequencies and both normal and high were enabled so i left that alone. Was in the process of creating a shade and realised that blocking the sensor (IR receiver) near the light forced the other sensor to become operational.

 

Going through the menu options i saw that i could disable one of the sensors on the projector so i disabled the front one and voila, the remote works with the light on. You would think that a projector having 2 sensors would mean they both work, but actually you need to disable one or cover it with masking tape.
