Strange Office Issue! HELP!

Hey Guys,

 

There's a teacher at my school who's having problems with her laptop, to be honest it does it on any computer she's logged in to! When she first loads up Microsoft Word 2013 and clicks blank document template, it all loads just fine but then when she goes to type a letter or word the speakers just do a dinging sound on every key press. It's intermittent because sometimes it resolves itself and will then let her type and other times nothing at all!!!

 

Never experienced an issue like this before and I haven't heard about this issue from anyone else in the school!? What do you guys reckon could be doing it? The application hasn't crashed because you can still right click for example or click the ribbon buttons and it responds it's just key presses!?

 

Really really would appreciate any help, it's been driving me nuts (and her)!

No it won't type on the screen either!

In that case most likely something corrupt in her network profile. Have a look in the apps folder and maybe rename something like a word folder and see if it recreates afresh and solves the problem.

Couldn't you create a new account and copy the profile path from the old account into the new account?

Hmm will check... although it's not having this issue on anyone else's user name so it could be her user profile I suppose.

Your description sounds like the Word window doesn't have focus, is inactive. Are you sure there are no dialog boxes hidden from view that have taken focus away from word, or another background task is getting in the way. Anything look out of place is Task Manager?

Do you have SMART Board software installed? It might be the SMART Ink add-on in Word causing this. I've found either disabling the add-on resolves this, also just changing the focus away from Word and going back to it gets it going again - eg minimise and maximise it again.

Cheers Guys will give this a try... @tmcd35 that is exactly what it does although there is nothing else, no dialogue boxes, no other programs nothing! I can't understand it, plus the application is in focus because I can select B for bold for example and then try type and still nothing.

I have seen this problem before. Smart Ink was causing it.

Yep been playing around with it this morning.... Smart Ink was the problem. I have disabled it and it works fine now! Cheers Guys!

Is Smart Ink the thing that pops up when you pick up a pen to write on the board? If that's the case then I can understand why it's grabbing focus and disabling it is probably not the right answer. Are any pens missing from the tray? Is the USB cable okay? Any sensor problems with the pen tray? The pen tray usually has two RJ-11 connectors for some reason to connect it to the board, try switching which one is being used?

Nope Smart Ink is normally at the top corner of every application, it's an add-in to allow you to write using pens on Word... This isn't necessary here so disabling it sorts out the issue!
