Robust Classroom Headphones?

Has anyone found a set of headphones that can stand the test of "little hands" using them? It feels like we have to replace ours every few months!

You can't go wrong with sennheiser USB headsets. Great quality and well made...

While some may baulk at the price, they're better value in the long run than cheaper headphones.

 

Some Plantronics models are also solid but they lack the design flair of the sennheisers.

This has been asked before and I can only say the best I have found so far, for Primary schools are:

So far (crossing fingers, touching wood etc) I have had very few problems with them. Does help warning them that they are under pain of death if they break them and encouraging them to 'grass' on each other if they see them biting the cable or usingthem roughly which would get a short term ban from using them. :-)

We buy really cheap 50p earpieces in bulk and on average they last at least ayear. That means, it would be 80 years before the sennheiser ones paid for themselves, assuming the sennheisers lasted 80 years. I have made up trays with a compartment for each earpiece. The kids are shown how to put them away tidily and the class cannot leave until all are accounted for, which is easy as all the compartments will be occupied.

 

Kids are allowed to bring their own in if they want.

Telex or Canford's own brand are both very robust. Both types used in their headset variety for language labs.

We are probably going to go down the road of the kids bring their own in and will be expected as an essential peice of equipment that they must bring in such as a pen, pencil, ruler etc is.

There's a hygiene issue with sharing as well. Ours don't have any foam and slip over the ear. I've put some antiseptic wipes in the boxes so the kids have the opportunity to clean them.

Get the headphones with the coiled wire they hardly get tangled up as much saving loads of time.

Honestly they hardly get tangled if the wire is coiled, they are a nascence when they get tangled.

These are the ones we're looking at replacing. The children have chewed through the wires of about 15 pairs since November so are looking for something else.

 

They're good, robust headphones but with the microphone being so far away from the mouth they're having to move it, and then the chewing starts.

 

I've suggested coating the wire in that stuff you can get for fingernails to stop biting them, but are really looking for some headphones that have a boom mic on them.

I'm looking for something similar at the moment and it's become something of a major issue lately as the emphasis on multimedia recording, playback, etc... has really gone into overdrive recently in my primaries.

 

I like the idea of the nail biting stuff for boom mikes but £40 a pair for headphones is definitely going to cause some issues for most of my schools... We'd be talking between £800 and £1600 to equip them with those!
