Every year, I mark the approach of Spring/Summer with sporting events. The start of the F1 season, Grand National, Boat Race, London Marathon, Wimbledon and finally, the Tour de France. And now the event that signals the end is fast coming up - the football season starts again. I don't really like football, especially the hype that surrounds it. So this is a sad time for me.

The good news, as I'm no longer tied to school holidays I can go to Portugal and follow the Volta ao Algarve next February.

Im with you on that one. The football season I dont follow at all. It when kids are talking as though they own the team... "We beat you this weekend".... "we signed xx"...."we only need XX points"

People follow their team around the country, spend ££ on tickets, beer, burgers etc and all for 90 minutes. Sorry, not a fan at all.

I'm off to watch the Extreme 40 Sailing series when it comes to Cardiff over the Bank Holiday weekend. Its free to watch live, free to watch online, lasts 4 days and is more exciting too.

I grew up in the west of Scotland around Glasgow where the question was "which team do you support, Rangers or Celtic" and the wrong answer inevitably resulted in a kicking. Football for me represents nothing but sectarian tribal mindless hooliganery, these days as much on the pitch as off it. I'd rather eat my own armpits than have anything to do with it.

Well for some of us the exciting part of the summer is fast approaching. The start of the footy season. I for one AM a big fan of footy. I appreciate that some people don't like it but I do and can't wait for the new season to start.

Madness, all the other sports are just time fillers while the footballers have their break. Then it's back to the good stuff again :p

I used to follow the Ultra 30 racing which was fun. I got to sail in one at Queen Mary reservoir a few years ago.

Football and Ice Hockey. :D

I'd be doomed if I didn't like football, boyfriend is completely obsessed.

Which hockey team do you support?

Chelmsford Chieftains :) So the NIHL rather than the Premier League. Looks like we'll be seeing you in the Challenge Cup this season though!

I mark the approach of spring/summer with the phrase "huh... it's not that cold any more."
