What do you do when you need help in a classroom?

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum, but what happens if something happens in the classroom (or anywhere else in the school) and you need help e.g. someone collapses, aggressive behaviour, need assistance from another member of staff?

 

Do you normally ask a child to fetch someone, call from your mobile or simply shout for help?

 

Does Capita SIMS (or similar program) have the facility to "request assistance" from the desktop?

What about when there is a power cut? What if no one is logged into SIMS, then this is just like sending an email or text message - Non-real-time.

 

Does your school not have a procedure in place for this?

I'd speak to your manager, SLT or another member of staff.

 

Sending a student is great, but requesting assistance from another staff member is best.

SIMS does have an Emergancy Alert option, but I don't know a lot about it.

 

I think it puts a button along the top toolbar at the far right which if it's pressed sends alerts to a predefined set of people. That then becomes dependant on them being at their desk, with SIMS open.

We do this and there is also a very loud panic alarm in every classroom.

I'd run to go get a teacher in that case. You can't sit and wait around if there's something happening.

Our primary school does this...

We have:

A green card which is a pass out for the student to visit reception or similar (like to take medicine, or pick up plimsoles for PE or to deliver a message)

An amber card which is a standard request for assistance such as a moderate behaviour issue or a child who needs to be escorted somewhere (like a tantrum, or a child who has been sick over themselves)

A red card which is an urgent behaviour issue or an equipment emergency (A red card got used when a blind descended and didn't particularly hurt, but did entrap a child, or when the top came off a tap!)

A white card which is a medical emergency.
