One of our Students has broken a laptop whilst using it at home. Their parents have agreed to pay for this but they want to see an "official" quotation first.

The problem is that they have snapped the charging port off the MOBO, so this would require an entirely new part. The case is also damaged and would need to be replaced too.

I can only find places that quote for labour, but cannot get a price for the parts as it's an oldish laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro A210). I'm worried that if we get it repaired it's going to cost more than the laptop's worth, and the parent's will refuse to pay. Does anyone know where I'd be able to get a labour + parts quote BEFORE we get it fixed, so I can pass this onto the parents?

Thanks! :)

I'd start by just pricing up the Mboard (unless the PSU socket is on a daughterboard of course) just the cost of the motherboard alone might BER the laptop and then ask for a "contribution" towards a replacement from the parents

as I didnt want to break forum rules, I have sent you a link to a company in pm, that I have had staff members here use for that purpose, they will give you a price up front for a repair.

@rich_tech there's nothing against you making a recommendation for a company you've used as long as you don't work for them.
