Group Policy - Allow users to create shortcuts only on the desktop.

 

Were in a unique situation where we need to allow users to have shortcuts on their desktops. this is non negotiable. But because they can save stuff to the desktop they just go mental and save everything there.

 

Is there a way to only allow certain filetypes?

only way i can think of is to redirect desktops to a different place than their normal folders so \\server\desktops%\%username% and use file server resources manager on the real folder location so d:\desktops and use the file screening portion to block anything but .lnk/.url

Or widening your parameters slightly, redirect the desktop to be a folder in their documents, so when they do drop a 300Mb powerpoint on the dekstop, it doesn't impact on their logon/off times.
