stevenlong1985 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 you can turn your phone into a Virtual Reality head set! https://developers.google.com/cardboard/ heres the app! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.samples.apps.cardboarddemo 1
LeightonJames Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 That looks great/insane. When I saw the title of the post though I was expecting a piece of Cardboard with the word Google drawn on it. A bit like the post @DaveP made about Google Glass
hardtailstar Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 I saw this mentioned at Google I/O. Interesting concept
Garacesh Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 You'll also need a ruler, glue, and scissors, an X-acto knife, or access to a laser cutter. A laser cutter... With cardboard...? That's not going to be a problem, is it? You know.. Because fire...?
woody Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Looks like a great idea for the DT department: Take google's design and make it better. Had a quick look for the lenses on a uk website but can't really find any suitable. If anyone has found where to buy them please share!
gtg93 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 This looks pretty awesome!! A laser cutter... With cardboard...? That's not going to be a problem, is it? You know.. Because fire...? Nope, when "printing" with the laser cutter from 2D Design, you do have the option to "print" to cardboard...
gtg93 Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Also, if you're lazy and don't wanna DIY: Google Cardboard VR toolkit | DODOcase
edutech4schools Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 The presenter on the bbc news tech show (cant remember the show name) said it was almost as good as the full vr headsets like oculus.

Garacesh Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 (edited) Presumably it was deleted. Looked like marketing spam I was looking for Google Cardboard VR and found this website Home page (Redacted) These people are selling Google Cardboard VR device online with free shipping worldwide. The product seems to be fairly priced. Also, they are selling the parts and card board separately. I ordered Pre-Cut Cardboard Only at $12.99 hopefully I will built it myself else I will require help here. Site redacted, obviously. Not going to do their advertising for them. elsiegee40 Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 Correct. This thread is being hit by spammers. Another one hit the great Spam-o-matic machine today. Two posts went yesterday
Ruskin Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 (edited) A laser cutter... With cardboard...? That's not going to be a problem, is it? You know.. Because fire...? Laser cutter is not included.......... the cardboard is laser pre cut for DIY. Many websites like http://www.googlecardboard.com/ are selling the pre-cut Cardboard online. unixman_again Posted July 10, 2014 Posted July 10, 2014 I came across this DIY version, which I think looks way cooler than the cardboard version Google Polycarbonate - page 2 of the article is interesting

AMLinington Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 (edited) I can't believe this isn't an elaborate April fools? It looks like a way of using your phone as a stereoscopic viewer (which is a thing used in aerial imagery analysis) but I can't believe it's not a wind up... Edited April 17, 2015 by AMLinington
sonofsanta Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Not even remotely a hoax. We bought one here to use with my Nexus 4 in lesson demonstrations, and it works surprisingly well for cardboard + plastic lenses + 2 year old phone not meant to do the job. It makes me happy because I don't get any motion sickness from it, and if I'm alright with Cardboard, I'll definitely be alright with all the fancy-pants proper systems out in the next 18 months
