My Poor Doggy :(

Got home last night to find our 5 year old cocker spaniel had had awful diarrhoea, but the main problem was there was a large amount of Blood every where he had been around the house, he's been sick before inside the house and he has lost a substantial amount of weight!

 

Had to take him to the vet last night to get him checked and she wants to see him this morning, my mum has taken him to the vets for a series of blood tests and some X-Rays, I hope he's ok, my dad who is a canceled the insurance for him without telling us so we don't know how we are going to afford his medical bills either!

Unfortunatley not None of us are! My mums just been through a divorce so none of us have any money at the moment my mum's already in around 30k worth of debt after the way my dad acted, god knows how we will be able to afford to get him sorted!

Vets are normally understanding and will allow you to set up a payment plan. Failing that, get yourself a credit card?

I have got one so it will have to be put on my credit card because my mum's are maxed! I'm not too worried about the money I just want him to get better! :/

Sorry to hear about this. Our dogs are our family, and I hope for the best for you. Our cocker spaniel got bit by some insect or another on her eyelid, and even that required a 2 week course of antibiotic cream at significant cost. I know our cocker will give anything a go foodwise whether it's something hard and sharp or soft and chewy, everything's fair game, so hopefully your dog's just eaten something he shouldn't have?

Just had an update from the vets they suspect it could be pancreatitis, which apparently can be very painful but is treatable. The check-up on him today will cost £300, I don't mind as long as he gets better!

@VeryPC_Colin_M, I know I'd dread it if anything was to happen to him! He seems to eat everything and anything and normally he's quite cruel, we found him around a year ago sucking a frog, spitting it back out again because he obviously wasn't to keen and then as the frog was trying to jump away he'd pull it back toward him with his paw! He also got hold of a baby squirrel around 2 months ago and we had to nurse the squirrel and then let it run free. Silly dog, all our other dogs where never like this they where really picky about what they'd eat and half the time they'd be more scared of the squirrel or frog but not George he just eats everything and anything, he seems to have an acquired taste towards slugs and snails at the moment. Ugh.

Have you mentioned to the Vet that he has eaten slugs and snails, I'm not a vet but the symptoms you describe could be Lungworm. Hope he gets better soon poor lad.

I was just about to post that myself. Our vet has lots of posters in it about lungworm and keeping dogs away from slugs etc. Even to the point of making sure any outside water bowls are clean. I would certainly make sure that the vet knows about this.

Hey Guys, yeah we told the vet about eating snails etc... he is being checked for lung worm and heart worm today so I'll only know when I get home! Bless him he won't have had a very good day after being pocked and prodded all day! I just wanna give him a cuddle

Hope he is okay mate. Have a dog myself and he's part of the family, would be devastated as well if anything happened. Plenty of treats and toys for when he gets better

I know money is an issue (it is for a lot of people) but the RSPCA do have cheaper rates than a vet, but i'm not sure how it works with emergency issues. Out of hours for my cat cost 1000.00 he got chewed by a fox, a lot of scrimping last year to pay off the loan...
