IE 9 upgrade page

Got a strange one, we currently have I.E 9 on our PC's since our change to W7 due to the original issues with ie10 etc. all has been fine except over the last couple of week when IE starts it not adds a second tab congratulating us on the upgrade to IE9! Everything else works fine. How can I stop this daft page loading? I have this issue at two schools.

Ok just found another thread over same issue, advice is a registry edit,

Heres a registry key for IE9 and I am sure the other versions are similar.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\IE9TourNoShow (a Reg_DWORD with a value of 1 to say don't show it again)

 

Got Server 2008 R2, how do I push that out using Group Policy? Anyone got a simpletons guide how to do it?

Use Group Policy Preferences to deploy the registry entry you want to set

This has been cropping up here as well, annoyingly (no idea why as we've been IE9 for ages) so this is a useful reg key to know about

 

As @snagrat says, use GPP - in a GPO that applies to users (you may have one for IE settings anyway) go to Preferences > Windows Settings > Registry

Right click in space and choose New > Registry Item and set it up as follows:

I've had this pop up too, I guess maybe a dodgy update? The GPO seems to have no effect on its behaviour.

 

I have deployed this reg key via GPP, will see what happens!

Yeah we had it appear too after a recent bout of Windows Updates. It only seemed to happen the first time for users, subsequent logons it disappeared..?

 

Strange seeing as we use IE10!

I must admit, I posted the registry hack on the other post and I thought it had resolved it for us but it hadn't.

 

I've upgraded our IE from 9 to 11 - was holding off for the summer and it now works without the additional tab!

Thanks for the update, does ie11 now accept the proxy settings automatically from gpo as ie9 does? It was one of the reasons we held off the upgrade due to problems others reported after upgrade.

Well depends on the method used to push the proxy settings.

 

The IE Maintenance settings do not apply to IE10+ but you can use Group Policy preferences to set the proxy for IE10/11.

Did you manage to resolve this ? We seem to have it happening with users on WIn 7 / IE10 and mandatory profiles.

We resolved this by upgrading to IE11 and pushing settings via GPP.
