AlexB Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Since I migrated to 2005 (from full 2000) the database backup that used to take 6 minutes now takes 40. Now as all the sims admins know any upgrade/patch carries out a backup before applying (whether you've done one manually or not) So every little patch now takes roughly 40 minutes and 3 seconds. This is getting damned annoying with all the little patches that have been needed of late so I rang county support (We pay them for SIMS, I just don't want to know when it comes to SIMS) and the answer back from them. "Thats perfectly normal" grrr Anyone else experiencing a huge increase in db backup since the forced move to 2005?
PhilNeal Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 I'm told you can place all patches into a single directory and do the backup once.
Jawloms Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 That will certainly work if you have all the patches already. Can you confirm what the situation is if you have three patches to install via SOLUS? I think it will do a backup for each one then. Stuart

Stuart dbugrade.exe will perform a backup at the start, not sure about solus.
Toby.Belfield Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 SOLUS currently makes a backup for each package that it deploys (ie a separate backup for each patch/release). However - a future version will change this, so that SOLUS makes a single backup. Regards, Toby Belfield Capita
Sylv3r Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 Yes, I can confirm that it takes 30 mins + for us now also.
Oops_my_bad Posted November 6, 2007 Posted November 6, 2007 takes about 15 minutes here along with the customary 100+ system log errors
AlexB Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 Ah well, at least it isn't me. Its just so damned annoying, but I guess I can say that about a lot of things. Also, thanks for that update Toby.
