linuxgirlie Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Received mine today, and I must say it is really really cool! 8) Been playing with it all afternoon, and to be the best toy I have had so far. Jo
localzuk Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 I've been told to get a couple to test out as we have lots of ideas for them Finally, a good gadget!
Guest richard Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 Would like to get hold of one these but there is no way my school would spring even for the lower spec one as they could not even comprehend how to use them efftectively.
spc-rocket Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 I think there is an 8Gb one available as well (not sure about UK at the moment) which is windows compatible and Asus are looking to sell these PCs with windows pre-loaded. http://eeepc.asus.com/en/news10192007.htm Ash.
Diello Posted November 6, 2007 Report Posted November 6, 2007 Yup - Just got one & loving it - Now... if only I could get it to load EasyLinK!
russdev Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 Right so how does one add and remove icons from easy interface. Russell
linuxgirlie Posted November 7, 2007 Author Report Posted November 7, 2007 Not sure yet, but some people have been saying on forums that you can just edit an .xml file but I haven't found it yet. Jo ....typing this on her Asus.....
Dos_Box Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 Will you be joing us at BETT Jo? *typed from my work miniBook*
linuxgirlie Posted November 7, 2007 Author Report Posted November 7, 2007 Not sure yet, I hadn't planned anything but it could be interesting. Jo
Guest richard Posted November 7, 2007 Report Posted November 7, 2007 You get a free EduGeek BETT t-shirt Don't I get one if I turn up
linuxgirlie Posted November 7, 2007 Author Report Posted November 7, 2007 I have no choice then Come across this forum: http://forum.eeeuser.com/index.php Has lots of helpful hints and tips. Apparently the file needed is in: /opt/xandros/share/AsusLauncher/ and is called: simpeui.rc. I will have a play, but HTH Jo
Ric_ Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 I know it took a while but the pics from the conference of the MiniBook are now available at http://edugeek.net/index.php?name=coppermine&file=thumbnails&album=33&page=1
TechMonkey Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Yup - Just got one & loving it - Now... if only I could get it to load EasyLinK! We have succesfully used Dav Explorer in Linux to connect to Easylink. If you can install that on there somehow then you should be fine. Doubt the version of Linux on there has it but we have noticed that recent versions of Ubuntu can connect to Web Dav folders as drives, similar to how Macs do it. Not sure off the top of my head where to go though.
unixman Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 You can also purchase them from Misco, BT and laptopsdirect.co.uk. BT offer an option half price Symantec Norton 360 (err why) and the price from laptopsdirect is way over the odds.
TechMonkey Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 W00t!! ours came through. Dammit, internal DNS doesn't seem to work. Nayone else have fun setting this up? Got it on a static IP, set the DNS servers in both wired and wireless but everytime time we try and go to http://intranet (set in our local dns) it takes us to an external website. Apart from that everything seems fine but can't understand why it is ignoring internal addresses. IP works and we have the names set to bypass proxy. Another example is trying to go to server4, it goes to server4.com! Any ideas?
ICT_GUY Posted March 20, 2008 Report Posted March 20, 2008 (edited) Using mine which I got today. Screen is too small. Certain apps keep crashing. Updates dont work. Is very cool, but damn that screen. I will be buying one, probably the new one with the 1024 width screen and 12 gig HD, bugger the cost because it looks great. File manager is a bit lame. Drop into terminal window and change to super user and type command rather than right click to format an sd card? Please! It is amazing as a gadget, but not for schools, at least not as a desktop / laptop replacement. Edited March 20, 2008 by ICT_GUY

OverWorked Posted April 22, 2008 Report Posted April 22, 2008 They're also available on the Tesco Computers for Schools scheme. 2GB SSD, 256MB RAM = 6,800 vouchers 4GB SSD, 512MB RAM = 8,000 vouchers (or £80,000 worth of groceries!) I think I'll get one to try out. I'm thinking of using it for ePortal access for wireless registration.
linuxgirlie Posted April 24, 2008 Author Report Posted April 24, 2008 We are now looking at rolling them out. Still in the planning stages though.

CyberNerd Posted July 29, 2008 Report Posted July 29, 2008 Konqueror (the file manager) should have webdav built in. just go to webdav://adress
