I am currently in the market for a half decent cable tester, preferably one i can run reports from. I am running just over 4000m of cable this summer instead of us getting a company in so would like to have something i can run proper tests from and not just having LED's illuminate.

Would also be interesting to see what everyone else uses. I dont think we will be able to stretch to Fluke devices

Many thanks

Test-um Lanscaper here with dongles and tone tracer. Got ours second hand for 80 quid and is an awesome bit of kit. We run a lot of cabling and usually end up re-terminating quite a lot too so it's an awesome tool.

Fluke CableIQ.... For fault finding, testing and validation

Fluke DTX 1800 for installation and certification.

Certainly not cheap but I wouldn't think of using anything else now.

Look at hiring a fluke for a week or too you need something like that or the test-um certifier tools if you want to know that what you've installed meets the standard otherwise you might as well just use a continuity check.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but what did you use in the end? I'm looking for a new tester that needs to be able to test gigabit speeds. Any suggestions? (cheap as possible is better, and i dont mind software based)
