Essentially yes, those 2 players ensured the rest played to full potential and helped them be a decent team.

 

It is concerning though that it happened like it did, but to be honest, Germany had to put Brazil in their place so they learned a lesson and can actually recover and look at what is wrong with South American Football.

Tye way I view the semi finals was this...the Dutch had Robben, the Brazilians had Neymar, the Argentinians had Messi and The Germans had a team.

From BBC Sport - World Cup 2014: Louis van Gaal says no-one wanted first penalty

Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal says two of his players refused to take the first penalty in their World Cup semi-final shootout defeat by Argentina.

Defender Ron Vlaar stepped up but Sergio Romero saved his kick.

I can kinda understand this but Robben should really have stepped up to lead off the penalties. Good on Vlaar for having a go.

Arjen Robben attempted just one pass in the first half against Argentina.

Wow, I knew he had been quiet but I didn't realise just what a good job Argentina did on him.

Mixed feelings about this as a Liverpool fan. On the one hand he is a fantastic footballer who strikes fear into any team we played against, this alone shall be sorely missed. On the other hand he comes with too much baggage and it seems like he is one incident away from a very large ban, particularly in this country. I don't think Liverpool could keep backing him regardless of how good a player he is.
