Seriously Apple! Enough!

There response: This is a forum where people go when they have problems. You are only seeing so many bad comments from people because this is a place to go to when issues arise. We will not be participating on this forum and we believe this website make up a small number of the technicians in the UK. Majority of the schools do well with Apple devices and the iPad is a brilliant educational tool, this represents a small minority of people that are having issues.

 

This site may have a small number of general UK technicians from companies etc but I bet it's a very high percentage of school / educational technicians on these forums.

Maybe it's just me, but I would have thought that participating would be a great way to win over those that have yet to drink the Kool Aid, or at least to gain some valuable feedback. Unless there are problems that they can't deal with...

 

Of course, I am not clever/ruthless enough to head one of the most successful companies in the world.

Not 100% sure what you are replying about but Android do let you access the Play Store without a credit card, they also let others adjust the OS like LearnPad and others do, so you can very easily push apps etc out without any fuss what

so ever.

 

Just in general, its not aimed at the CC issue but the problems people have with Apple products generally.

 

Other people have brought along other problems in this thread including other issues that exist in other threads.

 

And your right about a lot of School techies being on here, I have yet to visit a School who has never heard of EduGeek let alone signed up. Also aware of spies everrryyy whheerreeeeeeee

Sorry all, was there a solution to the debit card required for new accounts issue? Currently banging my head on a wall for not making note of it!

 

The way I've been doing it is to sign in to iTunes and then pretend to redeem a gift card, iTunes asks me to review the account and gives me the 'none' option in payment type.

I inherited a domain with a .local suffix so I'm glad I read this thread!

 

A domain rename is out of the question at the moment and our Head is as keen as mustard on deploying and managing IPads with a view to them being the 1-1 solution for all our students.

 

I shall be mentioning this to the vendors when they appear and see what they suggest.

 

EDIT - Unless I'm being dim it reads like Apple have addressed this - specifically Some private networks also use ".local" domains for hosts registered with their internal DNS server, even though it is not a valid top-level domain on the public Internet. If your Mac is connected to such a network, you may want it to look up host names that end in ".local" by using Unicast DNS to speak to a DNS server, the same way that it looks up host names such as "www.apple.com" on the Internet.

I have a secret yet unused way to get around all problems with iPads

 

1. Pick-up iPad in two hands firmly

2. Raise Right-Knee so that it is level

3. Hold iPad above your head

4. With as much force possible and all your strength drop it down on your knee

5. Problem Solved

 

Repeat as needed.

Already done that! It was reasonably painless I thought.

 

Fortunately as part of the deal we will be getting someone to help us integrate all this stuff with AD rather than it just being dumped in a big box on our floor.

That little trick only has limited effects on alleviating the problem of .local domains. Tried it as well as some other things some years ago on a .local domain. A domain rename ultimately was the only thing that fixed the problem and it was like night and day afterwards. Domain renames aren't really all that painful if properly planned and executed. With the exception of recent versions of Exchange Server, which don't allow a rename. If you have Exchange, it would be tough, but otherwise not so bad.
