Disposing of fluorescent tubes

I want to start getting stuff together for the recycling people but the storeroom is full of old fluorescent tubes. Does anyone know a relatively cost-effective way of getting rid of them (legally )

Our site team had a box they were put in and when it was full the recycling company would collect it maybe yours have the same or a contact as I would think they dispose of a lot.

They do need proper disposal as they contain small quantities of mercury. Failing your site team, you could try a local electrical wholesaler. You'd probably have to drop them in, as they won't be licensed to carry waste (doesn't matter if it is your own waste).

I have heard of PC disposal companies also taking fluorescent lights for safe disposal, too. Haven't actually dealt with any companies that do, but haven't dealt with any recycling companies at all - my place already had that set up when I arrived.

 

Still, worth firing off an e-mail or giving them a quick call to ask if they take 'em?

We get the electrical wholesaler that delivers our tubes to take the old ones away when we have a large collection batch of them, since part of the cost of the new tube includes the WEEE disposal.

I've sent them an email. It's not my job but I keep asking and I need the space for the stuff I'm clearing out.

Bulb tanks can assist or your local electrical wholesaler, I know for a fact CEF will take 1 box of tubes back for 1 box bought and I believe Oldfield have a similar setup, you maybe able to pay them to assist with the other pile of bulbs.
