difinity Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 The most important item and I missed it off, also if you are getting thermal paste then you will most likely need an alcohol ( not the drinkable sort ) and cotton pads or something similar to allow you to clean off thermal paste, or failing that you can get something like ArctiClean : ArctiClean 60ml Thermal Material Remover and Surface Cleaner Maybe also a thermal paste spreader ie a plastic card IPA is cheap for cleaning and a Stanley blade for the spreading ensures a straight edge. Arctic Silver or MX-2 for thermal paste. 1
laserblazer Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I have a barcode reader app on my phone that can help with the unreadable serial numbers. I've also found the camera useful for serial numbers that are hard to get at like Smartboards.
mac_shinobi Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 A good e-ticketing system for users to log calls in the first place
hardtailstar Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 A pen and note pad, Always good to write down those bits of information quickly As others have said, those items will get you by. 1
synaesthesia Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Plus can I also remind of the old addage, if it moves and shouldn't, gaffer tape. If it should move but doesn't, WD40. Both are sat within an arms reach here! And blutack. Lots of it. Seriously though, one wonderful "tool" you can rescue from any hard drive is the damnpowerful magnets for organising screws or keeping them safe! 1

Garacesh Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I think ( could be wrong ) but you acquire this over time and experience ? No, no.. That's techie cynicism, not a sense of humour A good e-ticketing system for users to log calls in the first place That they'll then never use. Seriously though, one wonderful "tool" you can rescue from any hard drive is the damnpowerful magnets for organising screws or keeping them safe! I was going to do that when I was dismantling hard disks as the platters needed physically destroying (server drives). I ended up pinching my finger as the magnets snapped shut. Ouch! Would not recommend. 1

cpjitservices Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 All of the above, tools for everything and on DVD / USB the software used most on your network along with maybe a few images. I find a spare usb stick with WinPE on is handy (Especially when I had an XP Network). I'm often seen out and about with Cup in hand.... I think sub-consciously it's to drop a hint but no one ever seems to get it. 1
PyROm Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I find these invaluable when working with rj45 leads Hypex LtdÂ::ÂCable Connectors & ToolsÂ::ÂToolsÂ::ÂCyclops 2 1
Garacesh Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Yes! Cyclops' are invaluable. I have one at home for when I run my own cabling and they're much easier than trying to strip it with cable cutters or similarly bladed tools.
