You know whats the funnyest thing about all the "Holier than thou, i dont read the daily mail and anyone who disagrees with my opinion obviously does" people is that they are so far up their own ass to realise how hipocritcal they are.

Take a look outside, no not just where *you* live, and then come back and tell the people who *cant* get jobs that immigrants are good for the country.

Have a little think about what will happen when these immigrants start claimming their pension? They are "all doing the low payed jobs we white scum wont do" right? Well if they aint got a very good job (ie highly taxable) and they only moved to the UK at age 30 (for example), where is the money going to come from? We already have a pension shortfall, delaying and exagerating the problem isnt going to make it go away (but it will put the blame on whichever political party is in charge when the shat hits the fan)

Go have an ask down the social for a council house and get told "no sorry theres no room at the inn. The empty houses you see here are earmarked for the immigrants. And no sorry we aint going to put you up in that hotel like we have done with Joe Iraqi, i dont care if your homeless"

Yeah i know, i read the mail and the sun and am an idiot for having an opinion differant to yours... but which paper do *you* read which disagrees with my personal experiances? Or is your paper better than me...

Ok, ok ... some of the comments on this thread have gone way off-topic and are now getting a tad un-needed.

As already mentioned, please do *not* use the term 'immigrant' to describe all and every person who has come to this country, whether it is for social, family, economic, or other reasons (including refugee status, conquerors, spies, visiting aliens from Alpha Centauri and so on).

If you want to use a phrase, how about 'people who do not contribute anything to the socio-economic-cultural-skills sections of our collection of nations'!!!??? Happily it can be shortened to *SPONGERS*!!!

Can I just point out that our birth/death ratio in the UK is currently roughly equal (estimated at 10.67/1000 births to 10.09/1000 deaths). This causes a problem for the future retiring ages due to the shortfalls in pension schemes and as such, an increase in the workforce is required to pay for that. This can be achieved in a couple of ways - later retirement ages (which has already be instituted) and increased immigration.

In November of last year, our net gain of people in the UK, due to legal immigration, was around 500 people a day. Without these immigrants, it would be us who will be suffering with pension problems. It is their taxes and national insurance that will be bolstering pension funds. It is their taxes that will be ensuring their is enough money going around to run an efficient school system, nhs, police, fire service etc... when we all retire.

Anyone who immigrates and doesn't add to the economic growth of the nation should not be allowed to stay - and in fact, the law does not allow them to stay.

The reason people can't get jobs in the UK is due to the major change in industries available. We are no longer a manufacturing nation and as such those who are skilled in that area can either a) migrate to somewhere which is or b) re-skill and join a new industry. There have been various major economic changes throughout history - we can't point fingers at groups of people each time. We can simply realise that the economy is a very fluid thing and that we have to be flexible with it.

The council house problem is not due to immigration, it is due to the law being changed which allowed council tenants to buy the council home. It comes from years of underinvestment in new property by councils and it comes from 'NIMBY' thinking - no-one wants a new council estate in their area...

And, I don't read a paper. I read about 30 different news sites. I form my opinions based on analysing the articles from these different sources. Some are 'left' some are 'right. But being able to think for myself, I use the information presented to see the bigger picture. This is what my education taught me to do. Without immigration, there won't be enough money around to educate future generations properly - it will all end up the hands of private companies.

Well argued. I agree with all of your points raised. The thing that worries me most of all is our ingrained racism - I think we are the most racist nation on the planet and this doesn't bode well for future harmony in the light of the increase in our numbers from other countries.

Posted
Why do people always throw the racism word in when debating immigration, being against immigration is not racism. Racism would be saying "that all immigrants who are non white are not welcome". Saying that we should close our borders to ALL immigrants regardless of colour or creed is not racist and if you think it is then your are stuck on the PC Train that is destroying this country.

Oh I wouldn't say that. There is a serious amount of racism in this country, but I think a lot of the problem is actually nationalism/patriotism which is taken too far and a lack of knowledge of how a complex modern democracy works. I would also say that we are by far not the worst country for racism - Australia is a bad country for racism (the anti-aboriginal attitudes of many Australians is well known) as far as I'm aware also, as is the USA (but they aren't necessarily racist, more scared of anything that is different - look at the communist malarkey in the 50's with McCarthy, or the Salem Witch Trials in the late 1690's, now it is a fear of Islam and anything non-christian). But so are South Africa, Zimbabwe, France, Greece and many other countries.

Surely, if you are at the bottom of the wood-pile you can say what you like. And we are ICT Technicians, doesn't get any lower than that, just ask a teacher if you don't believe me.

Had a bad day at work today? :-)

lol, you can say what you like - freedom of expression is one of the most important tenets of our society. However, you have to be willing to take the flack for it.

Also, I forgot to mention - have you been to a hospital in the UK recently? Or an NHS dentist? You will notice that a huge number of our doctors are not natives. This is just one of the many high skill area's in the UK which is suffering a shortage. Without immigration, our NHS system would be in even more of a mess than it already is.

Guess again. Young doctors are now having to go abroad after "we" have payed for most of their training

Posted
Sorry, but the reason our junior doctors are leaving is due to the poorly thought out new recruitment system. Take a look at the skills shortage list at this immigration advice site...

As stated before the problem with the skills shortage is that the government needs a decent retraining program and make benefits less desirable to live on and then we would not need immigrants.

Ok had to post this as just all very apt.

Just read about polish immigrant who lived on a ring road and only thing he got from council was two meals on wheels a day and new tent every two years. :)

He even contributed to society by sweeping the roads. :)

Not sure how to read that really. Although, my housemate is Romanian and works harder than anyone I've ever met. We can give examples of people till blue in the face, it is the overall picture that is important.

If this is the guy I think you are talking about then there is a twist to this tale. It turns out he was an SS Officer before he came to our humble land - perhaps not the best example of an innocent person just trying to get by!!

Sorry was going to post link but didn't :(

Not read anything about him being an ss officer

@localzuk

Just thought it was very apt article that read my point and think yours as well (but do correct me if wrong) is that you are right you can give examples for or against till blue in face it is very hard to pegion hole people as that is what make us humans.

Anyway

Just no body put tumble dryers in room 101 or I would not have any clothes to wear this morning. :)
