High use copy-printer for all school use

We need to source a colour copy-printer able to printer A4 & A3, networked, access controlled (Do we have RIDICULOUS levels of printing waste!?)

It will be high use - printing class sets of hand outs etc

approx 200,000 Mono prints 200,000 colour prints pa at the moment

 

Any recommendations on the make of machine

 

How do others finance & maintain their main printer?

You need to enter in to a lease agreement with a copier firm konica minolta, canon or a company that provides this type of leased equipment.

but is that the best way forward?

Our LA only allows us to enter into lease agreements with their approval which prolongs the process

Leases for such high use items are expensive which is why I'm wondering if we buy with a maint agreement we might be better off.

These high use machines get hammered and need replacing after a few years so if you buy one outright and then just have a maintenance agreement it'll probably cost you more in the long run.

 

Speak to some companies and see what options they can offer you.

400,000 pa (yearly) is not high volume, do you mean per month?

we always lease MFPs simply because if it goes wrong then you can just call them out and they have to visit and diagnose the problem within the SLA. We have 9 MFPs around the site printing on average about 8-9k pages a day between them (and 4 small laserjets where they are needed or at least claimed where they are needed). We couple that with papercut and then can bump the printing costs from our budget onto subject departments! Can't fault our service provider, we even have the MD pop in for a coffee every now and then!
