Print manager plus or Papercut?

Hi all,

I currently have Print Manager Plus and although it is ticking along quite well without much issue, I do feel it is a little clunky and looks quite outdated so cast my eye on Papercut (thanks to Edugeek adverts). I just wonder if anyone has made the jump before and how they find it compared to print manager plus.

I am not desperate to move away but with my renewal coming up and some new servers to play with, if I am going to make the jump then now is the time.

I moved from PMP to Pcounter and wished I'd bought in to Papercut it's a lot more powerful and modern compared to the other 2.

I have PMP and it does OK. Heard good things about Papercut tho.

Used PCounter in a previous school ... nightmare!

We are with papercut and not had any problems with it.

 

Ad sync works nicely. (We had problems but that's with dc not papercut.

 

Needs a good spec server to run nicely. We had it on a P3 1gb of ram for a year then we virtualed it. 2 core 3gb and runs quick.

I've used pmp, pcounter and papercut. And I can't recommend papercut highly enough. I had an old version of pmp but I have an upto date version of pcounter and it really doesn't touch papercut in any respect. Functionality, usability anything! Edited March 24, 2014 by Marshall_IT

We have pmp yea it is a bit clunky but ive spoken to there project manager and said there is an upgrade coming for a web front end for reporting and various other bits I spoken to someone about papercut and its quite expensive from what I heard

Previously used papercut in a few of my primaries, I swore by it, moved jobs to where I am now where they used PMP but it was terrible and constantly overloading the server, removed it and just put pcounter on as we don't need the powerful features of the full papercut product.

 

TLDR, Papercut, Papercut, Papercut.

PaperCut hands down. Had 2 installs of PCounter for 500 users ish and would never put myself through it again.

 

Where I am now got 2 big customers looking at moving to PaperCut, well in fact 1 is and 1 has just trialed it and their eyes have lit up, PaperCut is light years ahead of PCounter.

Moved us from PMP to Papercut about 5 years ago now. Not looked back! It isn't very expensive that I can tell - we paid about £650 for 1000 users for 5 years maintenance (for Papercut MF), for example. Edited March 25, 2014 by localzuk

Just wanted to add that Papercut has been good for us as well (haven't tried the others). We just paid the one-off cost a few years ago and while it's not necessary (yet) and if funds allow we'll probably pay again in 1-2 years to get the newer version.

Have used PMP in my previous school and in this school bought into papercut. I would recommend papercut without hesitation. Easy to set up and easy to use. The scripting side is very good. I don't think PMP had that option.

The price is also right.

Just to note, NG is different to MF. If you want to use embedded software on your MFDs with users logging into them you need MF. that has a higher cost. If your only wanting printer management and costs etc NG is fine.

Seriously, I can't comment on the more recent PMP version, but it was night and day when I moved from PMP to Papercut a few years ago, haven't regretted it for a second.
