Ratio of computers to students

Has anyone else had to work this out recently?

 

We are looking to see how we compare to other schools and if there is a suggested minimum somewhere?

 

We are currently running at about 4.4 students to a computer.

I'm not too good with Maths, so if someone can work out the ratio:

 

675 devices (Including Servers, its from AD, its roughly around 650ish) / 869 students

1.34 students per computer (based on 650)

2.2 students per computer. 600 (ish) students, 250 desktops + 20 laptops for student use. Max school capacity is 1000 students though. Oh its a BSF school too.

We use a spreadsheet with all PCs recorded on it - student PCs are tallied per room and I have a sum for that column at the end. Current count is 543 student PCs for 869 students, so roughly 5/8 ratio (1.6 students per PC).

Back in the becta days i think it was 4 students to 1 computer and teacher computers classed as a computer in this ratio as it was used for students.

 

Students on roll 770 ish.

I remember the big push to improve ratios, then someone realised that a PC for every kid, in every lesson isn't always the best answer. IWB started to make big in roads about the same time, some schools tried to claim that they were the same as 15 PCs. But in the drive to meet arbitrary targets, PCs were bought when they were really inappropriate. Forget the Ratios, look at how technology is being used, IWB, Tablets, kindles, BeeBots, Raspberry Pi. It should be evident in every class room, but only where it adds value.
