genesis Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) Hi Senior management have asked me to buy windows tablets for the teachers.They will be using SIMS Office 2010, internet, outlook email. Also the tablet will be in the domain. Please suggest , a suitable Tablet . I am planning to buy one and test it. If it is working fine then I may buy more to replace the old laptops. fiendishlyclever Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 We've got a few Surface tablets (v1) and whilst I like the build quality, they aren't much good for curriculum use. Our head has a full Win 8 tablet but that's a pain to connect to a projector etc. you might be better off with something like the new a Lenovo Yoga - best of both worlds.

The detachable keyboard seems to be a hit for the majority of staff, some of who struggle with an onscreen keyboard, sorry I'll rephrase that, they struggle not having a physical keyboard.......
robjduk Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Loved the Yoga when I played at BETT this year however I tentatively asked the company who supply my MS licencing and they seemed to think they would be able to put me in touch with the right MS people to sort out a large order of Surfaces so may be worth chatting to your MS reps or large companies like Insight, Stone or Millgate? On a related note, we just got SIMS working via RDP on a Surface RT so although a large initial outlay on servers, you could if you were feeling techy suggest you set that up and supply RT tablets to all. RDP works great, frees hardware limitations, being tied to working onsite and should provide much cheaper upgrades in the future? Just a thought.
speckytecky Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Methinks teachers get paid a shed load of dosh for what they do - why should school budgets have to shell out for kit that they are in reality going to spend at least 80% of their time on surfing the net, social networking and shopping on Amazon et al!

gshaw Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Another vote for Dell Venue Pro 11, just ordered 4 of them for a CRM project, closest thing you can get to a Surface with full Windows 8. Also on offer at Dell at the moment, £400 for the Atom version (which in quad core guise is pretty quick!)
