Seriously? :) In 2014 when we have the likes of unlimited text messages and Push Mail with most e-mail systems... this is why pagers died out, it's one less thing to carry!

Absolutely, why complicate things! If it's size, one of those small phones from that cost a tenner that can text and call. No contract systems, nothing complicated. You'll save money. Bang their heads together.

Seriously?

Just get some cheap mobiles on EE (best overall signal) send text messages. I've not seen any provider offering off site pagers for ages. I know the NHS use onsite systems, but I'm sure it would be more cost effective to use mobiles.

True, but then they could respond and be tracked. SLT quite obviously only want to made aware of situations and then they can choose to deal with it or not.

Oh, There was a powercut at school ? Silly pager didn't work.

Billybob has been run over on the crossing? Can't be for me , I'll ask when I'm in on Monday.

Ofsted? Not on my holidays it isn't!

Vodafone still offer a pager service (and the devices) as far as I'm aware. (If they've stopped, it's fairly recently!)

This reply seem slightly off topic at first but stay with it.

We are currently planning to migrate our old telephone system to VOIP. We are in the early stages of tendering and we look like we are going to save loads of money on bills once the new system is in. Also the new system will come with new options that SLT are going to 'wet themselves' over including [this is the bit that goes to the pagers answer]

Redirected external calls to staff mobile phones, even if that staff member is offsite. If that call has been answered at a mobile but it is found to have been sent to the wrong phone the call can be re-directed from the mobile to the correct member of staff without going via the switchboard. The call can also be conferenced and recorded. If desired it can go direct to voice mail.

If you have VOIP already then you shouldn't need pagers?

If you don't have VOIP already is it time to change?
