DLP Projector Speckles

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but getting speckles on a Mitsu DLP projector

 

 

I assume it's not a simple case of cleaning it to fix?

We had problems with two of our Casio DLP projectors a while back. Casio offered a 5 year warranty on them and replaced the faulty part without any quibbles.

 

Mitsu might do the same?

Seems to be a fairly common problem with DLP. We bought a few (Infocus, Acer, Optoma) because they were cheap, havent lasted the DLP chips gone speckled or blurry images. Sticking to 3LCD from now on.

I've seen this exact problem with almost every brand of DLP projectors. However the worst offenders in my experience have been Optoma, Epson, InFocus and older Mitsubishi units.

 

DLP units are much more susceptible to heat damage and maintenance is an actual requirement rather than a nicety!

That is the DMD chip in the projector normally. An easy swap out if you can get hold of them however projectors don't cost much now

It is the Toshiba DMD chip, there was a dodgy batch some years back. I would guess these would be around 4/5 years old?
