Dageezah Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Struggled to find an appropriate forum, so going for this one..... In your school who is responsible for filling up paper and toner in printers? Could I also ask how many printers? The reason behind this, we have 10 MFP with a follow me solution, with only 1 ICT technician, now the school is saying he needs to fill paper and toner (which takes about 45mins to 1 hour). Thanks in advanced
Asgard Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) In the sixth form college where I work My two technicians are responsible for toner on our 15MFDs (Konica Minolta) - on average they probably do one a month. The paper is handled by a science technician/premises team helper (he does work for them but is not on the premises team) that also empties the recycling bins. He fills them up every Friday afternoon with 2 full reams and two spare reams . He gets email alerts for any that are empty, but he makes periodic checks through the week. We do have some staff who put it in themselves if it's empty and it seems to work quite well. Edited February 21, 2014 by Asgard
iForgot Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 We're in the process of a reprographics review, however until then we do the following. - Maintain paper stock for site, and issue to a central location. All staff are to collect their own paper when required. - Replace toner, water toner bottles, staples etc when required. We used to run a reprographics service, however this has now become a whole department itself. iForgot
elsiegee40 Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 (edited) Toners are done by the admin staff who also have the necessary witchcraft to free paper jams. Paper top ups are done by whoever discovers the paper has run out. It is stacked next to the printer. When we had an ICT Suite, we had Year 6 ICT monitors who tidied up, put headphones away and kept the printers topped up with paper. Small school with 1 MFP and 3 standalone printers. john Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Toners were responsible of Reprographics aka the receptionist (or us if we were handy / she was busy) they re-ordered supplied via the net so that was handy Paper was stacked by the copiers, if its empty you fill it up simples
unixman_again Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 We do all toners; we order them, store them and install them. Paper is done by whoever is in charge of the room, so the librarians for the library printers, staff if the printer is in their office and class teachers for the classrooms. We have a few rooms without class teachers, and the paper is added by whoever is there when it runs out. Paper is handed out by the reprographics staff.

Pretty much the same here, although as the school level IT support here consists of just me I get to sort out toners, paper jams, those little bits of paper that get stuck in the most awkward places, cleaning the paper pick up rollers when they get dusty (frequently due to cheap paper) etc....... We are slowly withdrawing the classroom printers and switching to departmental network units in bases. The classroom printers are mainly Brother HL1250s - absolutely bomb proof but at 14 years old most definitely well past their best now. As they break down they are getting removed.
Sylv3r Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 We do the toners for the printers. The reprographics manager puts the toner in the MDF machines. She also sorts the paper for all printers and MDFs.
fiza Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 We keep supplies of toner. Depts with technicians (science, art) fit their own once collected from us. For other depts we fit. Everyone is responsible for loading their own paper when it runs out. They have to collect and sign for it from Repro. The MFDs are run by Repro.
localzuk Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 We used to let staff replace toner in machines but have since stopped them as they seem to be intent on: a) throwing away half used cartridges as soon as the printer says "toner cartridge low", even though there's 3000 pages left b) messing it up and covering rooms in toner So, yeah, we're basically responsible for it. Reprographics do their own toners. Paper - staff do that themselves, else we'd never get any other work done.
