IE 10 Installation problems

When trying to install IE 10 on some machines I get the error code 9c59. I have also tried installing IE 11 and still get the same error code.

Any one else have this problem

I take it your not trying install it on xp. And using the x64 for 64bit and x86 for 32bit.

If you look in the IE10 install log file it'll normally give you a lot more detail, if it's missing certain patches etc etc.

Haven't tried with IEAK. Will do that toady and see how it goes.

After checking the log file the only error message I could find was this:

03:16.670: INFO: Launched package installation: C:\Windows\SysNative\dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\Windows\TEMP\IE1E82E.tmp\IE10-neutral.Downloaded.cab /quiet /norestart

04:00.132: INFO: Process exit code 0x00000002 (2) [The system cannot find the file specified. ]

04:00.148: ERROR: Neutral package installation failed (exit code = 0x00000002 (2)).

 

Same error occurs in the log file for an IEAK install.

Few things I'd say to check quickly if you get a minute, have you preinstalled the updates required to install IE10? If you're doing an online install and its pulling down the updates it'll sometimes get things blocked by AV etc. I'd try installing all the updates manually, then trying to install IE10 so it doesn't need to pull anything down.

 

Also are you using 64bit by any chance?

Machine I'm trying to fix right now is a windows 7 enterprise 64bit version.

Tried both online and offline installers. Fully update win 7 with windows updates. Have used the System Update Readiness Tool which still does not fix the problem.

Had a win 7 32 bit VM with the same error code. On the VM I uninstalled the antivirus and tried to update again but still failed. On the VM tried uninstalling IE 9 to update from 8 to 10 and still get the same error.

 

Strange thing is that under "Turn Windows features on or off" it will list IE 10 as been installed but running IE in about it still say IE 9 is running.

I have the same issue with a Server 2008 R2 x64 machine. I have looked on various forums and nothing seems to work.

 

I cannot install IE10 or 11 online or offline - update readiness tool doesn't help and I have all prerequisites installed.

 

All my other servers have updated without issue.

Only solution I came up with was a re-install nothing else seemed to work.

I assume that's an OS re-install? Not really an option for me on the server at the moment! Oh well I guess im stuck with IE9 for now!

Unless you try installing with the standalone installer and find the switch for logging. I'm assuming the server has a connection to wsus with updates for ie10 approved or able to get to windows update directly to the firewall. IE 10 has a few updates that are pre reqs.

I did all the pre reqs so I don't think it is that. The server gets updates directly from Windows Update and all other updates are successful. I will try and find a standalone installer and see how I get on - im not very optimistic though! Cheers

Not tried doing that. How would I go about doing it. I'm using Win7 Ent 32bit.

Winmgmt /verifyrepository

 

Run it in an administrator command prompt.

If it says it says inconsistent run winmgmt /resetrepoistory

WMI repository is consistent. Any other thoughts?

Have you checked that Windows SP1 is installed properly? We had the same issue with workstations where the SP1 installation was interrupted.

I believe it is. I have about 20 machines out 120 that have this issue. They are all from the same image that has SP1 already integrated into Windows 7.

Unfortunately, whenever we get this our only option is to reimage the machine. Out of 750 PCs it's only happened a few times, but we wasted hours trying to fix it in Windows.

Same here. Quicker to re-image. It would be nice if someone does find a solution.
