I did think they should be going straight into the mis. According the the pastoral manager they do record incidents into the mis but they do not want to record incidents like late homework /coursework etc into the mis hence why they have asked for some sort of form.

I'd say you can't do it. Pretty sure you can do this in the MIS then assign different weighting. I often hear about people pushing IT for a solution when the problem is people not actually following existing processes in place. People like passing the blame. I know a few cases of reports having to have extremely complex logic to report all the required data simply because the ruddy form wasn't completely correctly. Sometimes saying no is the best solution then creating another system for them not to fill in.

I want the form to email and I have added an smtp recieve connector on the exchange server and it's still not working

As in you've added an SMTP receive connector under Server Configuration -> Hub Transport, then the "Receive Connectors" tab? Is the receive connector you've created enabled (worth double-checking)? Is the IP address of your Ubuntu server listed in the "Netwrk" tab of the receive connectors properties?

The Windows event log might tell you some useful information, i.e. whether somethign is trying to connect or not. Remember to check your firewall, too - you might have it set up to allow SMTP only from one particular location.

Ah cool beans, good luck. Forms is one of those things that should be really simple yet whenever it comes up, at least people I know anyway, normally make that sound a car mechanical makes when you ask for a price for a big repair job. Normally we end up using survey monkey lol!

Hi Yes i have put the Connector there, Its enabled and has the correct ip address of the ubuntu server on port 25, so im at a real loss. Is there any configuration needed in ubuntu so it knows where to send the mail?

Thanks

Ah, yes - your Ubuntu machine needs to have a proper sendmail setup, the PHP library uses sendmail to send emails. That Python code I posted above uses a library that sends SMTP mail directly.

I'd use google forms, which puts results into a spreadsheet which could be shared and then you can do manipulation on those sheets with scripts autocrat, doctopus, formmule and flubaroo todo various personalised document creation and sends, personalised copies or make grading depending on what the form use is.

autocrat is like an updated mailmerge to someones email, youpd

There's some other great vids on youpd.org for the other scripts and probably more I don't know about.

It also has benefit of not having the hassle of creating / maintaining your own web server and web app.

Yes - you need to tell it where to send the mail in the php script if you using php,

Try the code in PHP: mail - Manual example 1 - with your own e-mail to make sure that it's not an issue within the php page.

What do you mean by template? you can choose from a number of different input types text, number, multiple choice, slider. Don't think you can change the layout of the forms

Thanks for all of your help, I managed to get it working by installing and configuring send mail, i know have the form mailing to an email address but it comes through as plain text. I have tried using the sample code here Sending Nice HTML Email with PHP | CSS-Tricks which works but the moment i try to add an image into the table or copy the form design out of dreamweaver the insert.php seems to fail. does anyone have any guide on how to get the email to look the same as the form ?

Thanks

I am Running a insert.php file which processes the form and emails it and submits it to a sql database. I am trying to insert a html table into the script which i have working so far but when i try to use the align="center" the script stops working. any ideas?

If you're using " within the script you'll need to escape them, else it thinks you're ending it. Think it's \ for php, so align=\"center\" etc.

Hi, I now have the form and the email working as i want it. I just have one issue, When a user enters any special character into the text box e.g. <> ' the script fails giving me a check syntax error. I know i need to put validation onto the form. I have seen this piece of code

How would i go about getting the form to validate and then send the email which is sent by using my Insert.php Script.

Thanks All
