HaleStorm Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Got a text on Friday saying I was being given a free service upgrade to 4G from O2, went live yesterday, speed increase of mobile data is blisteringly fast!! Anyone else been moved across? Or has anyone been using 4G for a while? do you seem to use your data quicker?
featured_spectre Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 been on 4G since my new phone, the change is amazing. No watching youtube in crappy quality!
d0pefish Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Three didn't even need to text me, I got home last night, noticed my icon was now 4G instead of H+ Quick speedtest showed 55mb/s download speed in the local area.
HaleStorm Posted February 18, 2014 Author Posted February 18, 2014 My speed isn't that good @Dopefish....but it is faster than my Home broadband
Jamoire Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 Received the text saying I have been upgraded; however we don't have 4G coverage here yet so haven't been able to check or try it out.
mac_shinobi Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 @HaleStorm - you been with 02 for long or was it just that you are based in or around Sheffield and that they have upgraded there 4G network in that area and that is why you have now gotten 4G for free ? I currently only pay for 3G as don't get 4G in my area
HarryMonkey Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I had the text as well, unfortunately I don't live anywhere near a 4G area
mdench Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 got the text looks like gonna have to spend more time at the grandparents! 46Mb/s download!
featured_spectre Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 (edited) @mac_shinobi you can get a package with o2 on contract renewal, £5 for 8GB 4G data (also covers everything below 4G). When 4G goes in your area, you will get it automatically. I think Luton/surrounding areas is quite close on their plans, but as I travel too berkhamstead and london, I get it when I go there Edited February 18, 2014 by featured_spectre 1

May pay the extra for 4G if 1.) I get those speeds at home 2.) The signal improves at my home address 3.) 4G provides better coverage etc both in doors and out.
featured_spectre Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 might be worth the 4g upgrade just for the additional data bandwidth per month (you can get 2GB per month for £5 as a bolt on, or you can get 8GB per month for £5 in your contract)
mac_shinobi Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I've not had the text! I've not had the text either but am guessing that is due to not getting 4G coverage in my area for quite a while longer !! Sigh !!

When I know I can get 4G coverage where I live and where I work then I will fork out the extra and go from there
featured_spectre Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 What handset have you got? I got the xperia Z1 ultra (costs more than the iPhone 5s), unlimited minutes, messages, 8GB data, bluetooth mini player and a bluetooth headset for £40 a month...

d0pefish Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 that's what I like about Three, no extra usage for data
featured_spectre Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 yeh but with the Three, you dont get much signal out and about, My friend and I compared, we stood next to each other, and he had an E signal, I had 4G, and in london where I got 4G he got h+. Was not really a good thing when they offer all you can eat data, but can't really back up the 4G stuff to go with it, especially in the capital (This was at the weekend when we went to the arsenal game)
d0pefish Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I think it's a bit unfair to say they can't back up the 4G thing when EE or whatever they rebrand themselves as every 2 days had exclusive access to 4G then got to decide who and when to sell off bits of it. Plus Three now has the option of using your inclusive minutes and data in other countries, so it's not roaming, you are using your normal minutes and data. I'd much prefer them to O2 (who I was with for 10 years and did squat for me)
featured_spectre Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 can't argue with the international data usage...
Nibiru Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 4G? Theres a lot of areas round here dont have any mobile signal at all, just large white gaps in the coverage maps.
d0pefish Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 OK so not a straight switch according to the terms, but it's this: If your plan or Add-on includes all-you-can-eat data, unlimited texts or more than 3000 minutes, when using Feel At Home you’ll only be able to use 25GB of data, 5000 texts to the UK or 3000 minutes of calls to the UK in any one month.
newpersn Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 I get 4G in Chepstow and Gloucester. Nothing in the middle just H+ (and yes i live in the middle)
