Rawns Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 BBC News - Still Open All Hours commissioned for full series Seems it proved so popular, David Jason has agreed to do a 6 episode series to be aired later this year. I watched it over Christmas and thought it was OK. There were a lot of nods to Ronnie Barker and I think the origional series has to be watched to fully appreciate. It was however a bit before me time.
Danp Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 It was appalling. Loved the original, should have left it alone.
d0pefish Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Good old BBC. Can't wait for the next one of "Only Fools and Horses cast sign up for another series......including Trigger's halfwit son played by some nobody from a hip BBC3 comedy show"
korifugi Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 I thought that while it was good, it wasn't great... Even though it followed the exact same format of the original (a group of loosely held sketches), it just didn't seem to have the same feel - as if it was trying a bit too hard. I think they tried to do a bit too much in the one episode. I'll still watch it though - as it'll still be much better than the current trend of "I wanna be famous" and "I'm an obscure celeb and want screentime" programmes.

Most likely to be one of the most watched TV items this year I reckon.
achedgy Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Wondered if they might do a series, was okay I suppose, but will need some dragging out to make a series I think...
localzuk Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Pah, they should give up on these and fund more Red Dwarf! 2
CHR1S Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Pah, they should give up on these and fund more Red Dwarf! Even the later Dave episodes were not as good, I always go back to series 3/4 and sometimes 5 before they got OTT on the special effects.

Oh I disagree. The newest series was superb. They got the jokes right. Lemons was probably one of the best episodes of them all in my view. That special they did in the middle, the Blade Runner copy, was awful though!

I watched that quite recently having not seen it since it aired. I thought "It can't be as bad as I remember, I'll give it another go!". How wrong I was. Just a simple thing like removing audience laughter had a huge impact on it. Awful, awful, awful!!! The newest series on Dave was very good. There were one or two episodes that I felt could have been better, but on the whole, I though it was great!

Jawloms Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Just a simple thing like removing audience laughter had a huge impact on it. I don't think they did remove the audience laughter; it just wasn't funny so the audience weren't laughing.
