eyetea Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 My running has gone out the window this year. Hoping to pick it up when the nights draw closer (Currently very self conscious about running in the daytime in plain view of everyone....) I found that overcoming being self conscious was one of the hardest parts about starting. My first run was in the middle of a local park and it's a very popular running place so was extremely nervous. I was lucky in the fact that I went with a good mate who was really encouraging and had a good balance of when to push me or when I needed 30s of just walking! I've fallen off the bandwagon over the last month and a bit - need to get back on! 2
HarryMonkey Posted September 21, 2016 Author Posted September 21, 2016 Went out with er indoors last night. we've been just doing 30 minute sessions, decided to up the ante and pushed her a bit harder, result .. her first run of 4k (35 mins). Hope fully she'll be ready to do a parkrun in a few weeks. 2
Tesla Posted September 21, 2016 Posted September 21, 2016 On a funny note, i got a text from parkrun on saturday, congratulating me on finishing 128th on the Livingston parkrun, in a time of 28:30! (which i'd be happy with) Shame I was sat on the sofa most of that morning, mind, in Buckinghamshire. 4

I heard about this happening to someone else and it turned out that the person had ordered one of the wristband barcodes but miss typed their runner number which turned out to be someone else's Hopefully that hasn't happened in this case and its just that the runner number was entered manually as a one off incorrectly
jdoyle Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 completed Dublin Half Marathon in 2hrs 28mins 25secs chip time. My slowest half marathon to date as expected.
jdoyle Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 completed Bournemouth Half Marathon yesterday. 2hrs 04mins 05secs chip time. Getting back on form. Slowly. 1
witch Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 completed Bournemouth Half Marathon yesterday. 2hrs 04mins 05secs chip time. Getting back on form. Slowly. Would have come and cheered you on if I had known 1
jdoyle Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 Got a NO from the London Marathon ballot. My running buddy got a YES. :-(
jdoyle Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 managed a 5mile run on Friday, 20mile on Saturday and then another 5m mile run yesterday. Dublin marathon back on the agenda for 30th October but there won't be any PB 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted October 17, 2016 Posted October 17, 2016 managed a 5mile run on Friday, 20mile on Saturday and then another 5m mile run yesterday. Dublin marathon back on the agenda for 30th October but there won't be any PB I saw your 20 miler on strava, great work :-) I'm back on the injured list, after 4 weeks off I played football last thursday and took it really really easy.....re-injured hamstring :-( 1
HarryMonkey Posted October 17, 2016 Author Posted October 17, 2016 Both my partner and I have been laid up with colds/babysitting grandkids/sinusitis for the last couple of weeks so hoping to hit the pavement again tonight. Looks like we've seen the last of the runs in the park now that it's getting dark so early
ICTLady Posted October 19, 2016 Posted October 19, 2016 Great stuff everyone Sorry to hear about your injury @Iain.Faulkner I didn't run at Bournemouth Marathon Festival this year (it's my local) as I ran the Royal Parks Half the following week - new PB of 2:18 for me. Could possibly have shaved a couple more minutes off if I hadn't stopped to take photos on the way round - great sight-seeing route past Buckingham Palace, Marble Arch, Downing Street, through Trafalgar Square, down the Strand etc. Marshalled at the Bournemouth 10k with my son which was great fun. And I may or may not have signed up for my first marathon after a few drinks - Giants Head, voted Best UK Marathon. I'll be doing it with a great group of friends I have met through running but I have to say I am wondering what on earth I have done..... 1
jdoyle Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 completed the Dublin Marathon on Sunday. The compressed training told as expected. Was doing OK to mile 12 with the 4:20 pacer in view and then slowed down. Had to take a break at 18.5 for the loo and seemed slow a bit after this. Reasonably strong finish though. Chip time 4:50:26 in the end.
eyetea Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Jumping back on the bandwagon after falling off for over a month and a half! Dreading it a bit haha!
Iain.Faulkner Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Managed to get a couple of runs in now since my injury. 2 x 5kms both of around 30 minutes. Pleased to get through the two runs, not too sore after them either. Signed up to the Wilmslow Festive 10k now first sunday in December, so training starts now :-) Also joined our local running group "Poynton Runners", so hopefully that will add extra incentive to get out there running 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Managed to get out again over the weekend, 7.2km of steady running. Hamstring still a bit sore, but so pleased to be back out and running again :-) 1
HarryMonkey Posted November 7, 2016 Author Posted November 7, 2016 Went out with OH on Friday night, her first run after a chest infection, we managed 4k but her breathing was awful and she had to stop and walk quite a few times. I'm sure it will get better though. 2
jdoyle Posted November 7, 2016 Posted November 7, 2016 Currently doing RunVember - a running challenge where the entry "fee" is to put together a Christmas box of materials for one of the local homeless charities. About 300 runners signed up for this and committing to run at least a mile a day for 30days. Tracking is done via a Strava Group. Some days are "specials" running in groups or individually. Saturday's was run in a posh frock through parts of Swindon (embarrassing) while next weekend there is a run in a baby or a swimming outfit. 1
eyetea Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 What do you guys wear in this kind of weather? I can't seem to get the balance between cold / hot / just right at the moment
Iain.Faulkner Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 What do you guys wear in this kind of weather? I can't seem to get the balance between cold / hot / just right at the moment I'm currently going for thermal base layer (long sleeve top and leggings), shorts, running shirt and waterproof brightly coloured running jacket (with light). I've then got some running gloves and a hat, however, like you i'm struggling to get the balance quite right and the hat and gloves often come off fairly quickly as I warm up, i'd rather have them with me though than get too cold. 1
smidsy Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Ran yesterday morning in thermal base layer, t-shirt and shorts. I was too hot at times when running up hills but just means a little bit extra sweat. I then carry a race vest with a bladder for drinking from on my longer runs. In the spare space I carry a waterproof top, gloves and buff which I can use to keep warm or dry if the weather changes.
Iain.Faulkner Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Got out last night with the "Poynton Runners" :-) A good 5k, latched onto someone running at a good pace and let them drag me round. Definitely the best run I've had (in terms of split times) since I got injured and was surprisinly mild, no rain and really quite warm.....long may it continue :-) 1
sippo Posted November 16, 2016 Posted November 16, 2016 Just started to get back to a routine. Up at 5am every other day. Cold, wet and miserable but hey sets me up for the day. 1
smidsy Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Lacking inspiration at the moment to get outside and run. Have some big races coming up next year but they feel so far away that they aren't making me want to train. Going to try to do some other sports (playing squash tomorrow) to find my mojo. Pretty sure it is located somewhere under the sofa.....
