Iain.Faulkner Posted April 10, 2015 Posted April 10, 2015 I've been very busy on my running in the last few weeks.....I've now completed C25K!! (slightly disappointed, I wanted to see fireworks come out of my phone or something, but not to be)....absolutely thrilled to have actually done the whole program :-) I've been doing 3 runs a week, with two shorter runs and one longer run....last night I ran my first 10k!! Hit 10k at 59 minutes and 45 seconds, which I was ecstatic at :-) I can't wait for the Manchester 10k now in a few weeks, I know I can run the whole thing and I know I can run it in under an hour :-) 3
Tesla Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Aldi are doing their running gear from the 16th April, also includes heart rate and BP monitors as well as an activity tracker. May have to take a visit, nothing seems to get me to start running like forcing myself to buy stuff, then making sure i get my money's worth!
Iain.Faulkner Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 Ran my second park run at the weekend, took 50 seconds off my pb :-) pb now at 28 minutes 10 seconds..... Not bad for someone who couldn't run 1km at the beginning of the year :-)
Tesla Posted April 13, 2015 Posted April 13, 2015 keep going, i haven't done a parkrun for a long time...i need to start running again soon! 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Now done my third park run...set another new pb of 27 minutes 48 seconds :-) Unfortunately I now seem to have picked up an injury...very very tight left hamstring. Hurts to run :-( Hoping a bit of time off will help, but the Manchester 10k is a week on Sunday...so a bit worried now :-(
witch Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Now done my third park run...set another new pb of 27 minutes 48 seconds :-) Unfortunately I now seem to have picked up an injury...very very tight left hamstring. Hurts to run :-( Hoping a bit of time off will help, but the Manchester 10k is a week on Sunday...so a bit worried now :-( I wouldn't just "hope" if I were you. Go to a physio if you can afford it - even one visit will give you some info and advice on how to deal with it. You don't want to tear a hamstring 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Thanks @witch I'm going to try and see a physio (I've just been told that I haven't broken my neck following an incident, but done some muscular damage so need physio on that) so I'll try and get both looked at at the same time
Sam_Brown Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Always amazes (and depresses) me at how people seem to be so much quicker than me at running! I've been running on and off for a few years now and never cracked the 30min mark for 5k. Perhaps they just have a higher pain tolerance than me! That being said despite being relatively slow I seem to be able to run further at a slower pace. When I'm fully fit I'll happily run 10k 3 times a week with no issues. Guess some people are just built differently.
Tesla Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 I have a pb that is unexplainably higher than any of my other park runs, it's bizarre. http://i.gyazo.com/b2b7504188af3dbdcbd4c2cb20665bb8.png
ICTLady Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 @Sam_Brown, have you done any speed work? Fartlek, sprint intervals etc? I found those made all the difference to me - just practising running fast, even for short stretches, so that I know how fast I can go when I need to pull it out of the bag. Especially how fast I can go at the end of a run when I am knackered! Nothing wrong with covering long distances at a slower pace though. Some people can just naturally run fast but not everyone. If you are happy doing what you're doing then no need to change it
Tesla Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Ha, Fartlek, oh how we laughed at that name in school.
Popular Post Iain.Faulkner Posted May 11, 2015 Popular Post Posted May 11, 2015 Not sure if this should go in here or not (It's in danger of becoming a general running thread!)....but yesterday I ran the Great Manchester Run 10k....Actually ran it! I ran the full distance (which was my primary aim), and then had a finish time of 59 minutes and 55 seconds!! I am utterly ecstatic at this result, never in my wildest dreams did I think I'd do it in under an hour :-) 5
Iain.Faulkner Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Thanks :-) I forgot to add, that this time is 26 minutes better than my previous Manchester 10k time :-)
jdoyle Posted May 19, 2015 Posted May 19, 2015 completed the Commonweal 5mile (HOME - Commonweal 5) run at Commonweal School in Swindon on Sunday. 2nd time I've done this run. 2 nasty uphill parts at the end. First 3 miles were all under 9minutes a mile which is faster than I intended. Total time 45mins 30seconds (49:05 last year). Joint 125th with my running buddy (we both started on the same Couch to 5K course in May 2013). Very nice t-shirt after this event. First open water swimming session completed at Cotswold Water Park on Saturday. Very different type of swimming from pool swimming. Nowhere near as cold or as scary as I thought it might be. 1
jdoyle Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 just completed my first open water tri-athlon at Eton Dorney on Sunday. Came in 15th out of a group of 29 in the Novice event (400m swim, 10.6km bike, 2.5km run); 54minutes 20seconds. Human Race - Mixed Distance Triathlon Next on the agenda : Lethbridge 10k 10th June RunJericho10k 21st June Ridgeway Relay 5th July (Leg 10 Barbury Castle to Marlborough) 2 years on the dot since I did the Couch 2 5K with Swindon Shin Splints running group. The group is starting 2 free beginners courses next month meeting at the Sun Inn by Coate Water for anyone in the area who'd like to have a go Starting Saturday 6th June @ 9am for 10 weeks Starting Tuesday 9th June @ 6:30pm for 10 weeks Swindon Shin Splints 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 Great work @jdoyle I desperately need to find my next event to build towards!! 1
jdoyle Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Iain, do you look at The Running Bug or TimeOutdoors for your events? Dublin Marathon in October is my next big event to build up to. Johnny 1
Iain.Faulkner Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Iain, do you look at The Running Bug or TimeOutdoors for your events? Dublin Marathon in October is my next big event to build up to. Johnny I'd seen The running bug before but never signed up, just signed up now so hopefully will find something to enter :-)
Iain.Faulkner Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Think I've found a run to sign up for :-) 10K, 5K at Alton Towers Resort UK » Roller Coaster Race won't be paying the supposed £45 entry fee (which does include a days entry to the park), but if I can have that cost reduced as a Merlin season pass holder then I am very interested. Also looking at the Wigan 10k in September 1
Tesla Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Going to test myself with a very short run tonight, see how I get on, done a couple of relatively pacey walks this since Friday with no ill effects.
Tesla Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Well, the run itself was fine....for 13 minutes. just a shame i realised i lost my key about half way through my run, then having to retrace my steps (without my glasses) home, still nothing, walking up to the OH's parents house, grabbed their key for the house, got driven back down to mine, grabbed glasses and phone, then walked up and down the whole route i had run. all in all i was out of the house for about an hour and 45 minutes.
witch Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 and did you find the key? Next time tie it to your shoelace!
Iain.Faulkner Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 Hope you found your key in the end! I have one of these for running, surprisingly spacious, plenty of room for a phone, headphones, bit of cash, key and my Park Run barcode and still not too bulky when you're running :-) Wiggle | Nike Expandable Running Lean Waistpack - SU15 | Waist Bags I went out and did 8.2km last night....need to be running more frequently than once a week though, particularly if I'm serious about doing a half marathon next March!!
