HP Microservers?

Got one as a DC, as I wanted a physical DC for a child domain but didn't need something powerful or expensive. I specced it up to run ESXi in the future, but the CPU is a bit weedy for that really. Later ones are quicker.

Snap. Although I got mine out and installing Windows 7.

 

I plan to use it as a media server though.

3 at work - 2 as personal PCs with Windows 7 for me and the other IT guy, the third with Windows 2008 as a RD box.

 

5 at home - for messing about with, streaming, etc.

I have one filled with WD Red disks and running OpenMediaVault (OpenMediaVault - The open network attached storage solution) for use as a NAS - there's also plugins to make it do other useful stuff.

Was recommended oVirt to run it as a VM type machine tempted to do it or just chuck on VMWare.

at work basically glorified nas boxes bar one which is a dc (main server was dodgy so promoted it as a plan b and good job i did)

home windows 7 basicly used to store tv progs and a backup of my docs,music,pics etc. as win7 does dlna (or is that dnla) stream stuff to my digibox and use for large downloads as its always on

Have one running Open SUSE which hooks into our phone system and logs all call details (including voice recording) - working very well.

I've got a friend (with a little more money than sense) who wants to sort out the hotch potch of a home network he's got. I'm seriously considering setting him up with one. Probably going to put VMware onto it to run untangle for content filtering (he's got a upper teenage son and twin mid teenage daughters, and my sympathy) and SBS. You can get a 5 cal edition of SBS 2011 exclusively for HP servers for £170. Which seems like exactly what he's after.
